Hey... what do I need to do to get on the Seti Team?

Hi everyone... I'm interested in helping the AnandTech Seti team.... I've been hooked up with the Seti@home program for over 3 years, so I understand whats happening. But looking at the instructions for joining, I am a bit puzzled at the CLI thingy that needs to be installed. Isn't that WinNT or 2000 based? I am running Windows ME on my system...


Let me know what I need to do to get started. I will get it hooked up this weekend. (Getting a new graphics card today, so gotta do that first 🙂 )

Register on the site. Have them send you your password. Then click the SETI link in my sig and hit the join button at the top of the page. Fill out the crap they ask you and you are in.🙂 Glad to have you aboard. /me hopes he didn't over simplify

oops I didn't answer your question. The CLI works will all Windows OS's from 95 on up. The reason we suggest using it is because it can cut your times by a significant amount sometimes up to 40%. The CLI client isn't nessesary though to be a part of the team.
 
^ What he said 😀 Welcome aboard! 😎 There are good instructions for setting up the CLI with SETIDriver to manage it, right here. Method 2 is what I use... just make sure to follow the instructions, particularly about not clicking that darned "New Client" button, and it'll be off and running.
 
What the others have said plus just click on the Join TeAm AnandTech SETI in my sig area. 😉
 
Cool, join up & get that CLI running - it will cut your WU time significantly!

I have a question... If I install CLI into the directory that my current Seti@home Program is running from will it work ok? OR, do I need to set this up from scratch?

Just curious....

You will want to uninstall the screensaver one, and then copy the CLI into any directory you want, but make sure you delete all other files in the directory related to the GUI, or it might throw a wobbly 🙂)

Ok.. another question... (I'm full of them...heheh)

My Internet connection does not have a proxy setting (Cox Cable). Do I need to set up with someones proxy to get my packets? The standard Seti@home GUI I have been using doesn't require it.

I'm reading up on this stuff away from my home computer. I'll be setting this up tonight or on the weekend, after installing my new Video card....

You don't need to use a proxy, but it's nice and sometimes the main site goes down but the proxys don't so you can still get WU's.
There are add on proggys like Seti Driver that let you cache a number of WU's on your machine. Some of us like to keep at least a weeks worth of WU's for every machine in our herd locally, in case the internet connection or anything else goes down you will always have enough WU's to crunch. THen when things are back up you get to dump a big number of units and that's always fun. 😉
