I picked up an SMC barricade wireless router and SMC pcmcia wireless card, and i'm currently 3 stories below my router in my house, working off laptop batteries and the wireless connection!

I am seriously shocked how quick it is...i maintained a 164 k / sec download WHILE WALKING DOWN 2 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS.

hehhe

anyone else experience the world of wireless networking at their home?

the best would be if you were typing from a wireless keyboard to a computer with a wireless connection to another wireless computer that had a wireless mouse :) :)

Tell me where you live so I can LAN-jack your wireless connection and get free internet from you.

Oh, BTW, congrats on the wireless.

goop point!

luckily, i just enabled 128 bit WEP about 5 minutes ago :)

although it was plugged in all day, so if you stood in my backyard or out front in a white van you could've had your way with my network :)

sux that i take a hit on speed with encryption enabled :(

I bought a linksys wireless router last week and a wireless PCI NIC for my fiancee's PC. Her NIC connects and takes a DHCP lease from the router, but she can't browse.

Not sure what gives.

can she ping IP addresses?

if so, it might be a DNS issue

I have quite the set up going now. I have a server and two computers running on 10/100 connections, and 2 computers and 2 laptops doing wireless with the linksys WP11.

Presuming she's able to ping the wireless router, is the DHCP server giving her a default gateway? Without the local gateway you'll never browse. If so, check TCP/IP connectivity to the outside world (ping 204.147.80.5). If you can hit that, but still can't browse, make sure the browser settings are correct (no proxy, no auto-detect, etc.). Make sure she has a primary/secondary DNS set.

Shouldn't be any different than normal 'net connectivity troubleshooting.
