Hey Skaters. What type of longboard should I get?

I am looking to get a Fluid longboard from sports authority, but it is kind of expensive at 150 dollars. Are there any brands I should or should not get? Is $150 dollars for a long board too much money to be paying? It has 70mm wheels with a hardness rating of 74a as well as ABEC 5 bearings so from the research I have done it looks to be a nice board for cruising which is what I want to do. Are there any other places online besides sports authority I should checkout for good longboards? Thanks.

Just get the 74mm wheels and put them on a regular deck. Longboard's are stupid. They're supposed to imitate surfing on a longboard, but they dont offer any of the benefits over a shortbaord that you get in surfing.

I hear longboards are better for cruising and going further distances? Any truth to that or is a small board with good wheels and bearings going to do the same thing for me. I want to have it go fast and keep going with minimal push from me, and I am not concerned with the ability to do tricks. Would a tall guy like me have better luck in balancing on a longer or a shorter board if that makes any difference?

I've ridden on a friend's longboard a little but I do tricks on my skateboard so I don't really know a whole lot about just cruising. There'd obviously be more room on a longboard but OTOH you get just find a big short board (8"+ wide) and put some big wheels on it. CCS Mailorder has a few longboards I believe but I don't like that place much anymore. Expensive, everything is outta stock, and it takes them forever to ship it seems. There's also a big wheel short board package at CCS. It's like a 8.25 Powell board with bigazz wheels and risers.

edit: Oh they have a Powell longboard there...

get a short board with taller, softer wheels if you just wanna cruise. Get ABEC 5, also. The soft tall wheels mean you go faster and have better grip.

<< Do you guys have a preference of wood to fiberglass/plastic boards? >>

wood, just cause that's what I've always used. It really doesn't make 1 damn bit of difference if you're jsut cruising around on it, anything with good bearings and big soft wheels will be fine.
