I just put together my second PC and am in the process of hooking it up. What kind of production can I expect? I've got a P4 2.4B as my main rig with 512MB of DDR354, and I'm getting 6 WUs a day.

The new one is an XP1900+ with 512MB of DDR. I need to get back up there . . . I used to be in the stinkin' top 50!

If it runs 24 hours a day, I'd guess the new 1900+ is going to do 6 to 7 per day also. Here are the results from a 1600+ running at ~2100+ speeds, and it's managing 7 to 8 per day: link This one's running at the 166MHz bus, which many 1600+'s seem to manage with a small voltage bump.

6 to 7 per day sounds about right. My XP 1800+ does 5.5 per day or so.

mechBgon, what type and how much ram are you running in that 1600+ @ 2100+?

I have the same overclock with 256mb pc2700 samsung and my WU's generally take closer to 4 hours. Why do you suppose it's different from yours?

Thanks,
Brett

The rundown here:

  • Asus A7V333-R with 1012 BIOS
  • AthlonXP 1600+ at 166MHz bus (1400MHz @ 1750MHz) with a large-ish Coolermaster $6 heatsink/fan
  • One stick of Crucial PC2100 running at SPD settings (lucky me, it tolerates the 166MHz bus)
  • Win98SE (maybe I should switch to Win2k)

Here's mine
  • Epox 8k5a2+
  • AROIA Y XP1600+ at 166fsb (1400@1750) w/ GC68 Heatsink/Fan (~47-51C seti load)
  • 1x Samsung "True" PC2700 256mb
  • Windows 2000 Professional

I'm also running UD though. Would that slow it down that much?

I think UD may be exactly the issue. Try shutting it off for a few hours and see what the SETI times do, maybe.

Ummm...
I run UD and SETI on my XP1600 OC'd to 1511Mhz and it is averaging 3:44 WUs See "Peppers" HERE It has "normal" Crucial PC2100 RAM but I do run it at CAS2. It is running on Win2k on an Asus A7V266-E mobo.

Is that production right? I've got a Asus P4B-266/1.6a@2200/512 DDR PC2100 combo running and it does WU's in 3hr 25min (about 7 per day). Shouldn't a P4 2.4 get more than 6 per day.

**Keep in mind those numbers are not including nights with 6 hours of Battlefield 1942 going** ;)

yay, I found someone who also plays BF1942.

Asides from that if it helps my 1800@1900 does WU's with an average of 3:45. It's an older type of stepping. That is just over 6 a day, so i think the p4 2.4 should be doing a few more.

We've got a Gateway (don't laugh :p) at work...1.8GHz P4 and it averages 3:47 a WU...and has common 3:03 on VLA WU's :) Can't wait to see what the Dell 2.4 533 with 333 Ram will do! :)

I think you should be able to get a WU or 2 more out of that rig.

It's my main rig so I do use it quite a bit in the evening for playing games.

I get about 2 hours 35 min on my P4 @ 2.91 GHz. So that's 9 or 10 a day, but I don't leave it on at night unless it's got another task anyway, so it never runs 24 hours at a time.
