They do a pretty big display at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, it's right off the freeway too. Maybe try Milton's across the street for some food, good sandwiches.

if you're in north county, they actually have a decent show/fair at the valley center high school. it's got a small town feel to it. check it out. i'll be down at the bay though. they have 3 or 4 barges down there shooting fireworks.

the Del Mar Fairgrounds does a huge display (at least 20 minutes every year), which is what I'll be watching (later today?)
you can watch it from the fair itself (hello traffic nightmare), the beaches next to the fairgrounds (hello traffic nightmare), or possibly from the polo fields parking lot

they also do a big display downtown on San Diego Bay, though I've never seen it

The crouds, and traffic are terrible, so any where you go, go early, and stay late, for right after the shows there will be a million cars trying to get home from all directions, especially the beach areas. Since I am originally from San Diego, I will tell you a little secret. park at the base of Cowles mountain,(it's in the center of S.D.), hike up the trail with your provisions;)
and from there you can see about a dozen displays in every direction. Take a radio, the display directly below,(stadium) you is simulcast to rock and roll. Because you are about at 2000 feet the bursts will be almost level with you. BTW bring a flashlight for the hike down, camera, and binos are nice too.

Hmmmmm................very interesting. May have to scope out the Cowles Mountain idea.

Wife informed me that we're doing the downtown trolly thing today. That'll actually put us closer to the SD stuff, so will probably either do a bay display or the Cowles Mountain thing.

Maybe I'll drive around CM earlier today & scope the area to see how the scene looks.

Feelin' it BIG TIME after hikin' all over the animal park yesteday in 100 degree heat! Sun BEAT and because I pumped the A/C last night in the hotel I think I screwed my neck up. Can't hardly turn my head to the right.

Ain't nothin' like a good old-fashioned Griswold Family Vacation, eh?? :p
