How much does it cost to rent the plane you rent?

I'm deciding whether I should get my private pilots license. One of the factors is whether I could possibly be cheaper to fly a rented plane than purchasing a ticket from an airline.

Hey..

I pay $98/hr to rent wet ( i.e. it includes gas ) here in CT.

What type of plane?

By the way, if you need fuel during the trip do you get reimbursed for it?

Umm, if you need fuel "during the trip" you're in trouble, because there aren't any gas stations in midair 😉

If you're renting for, say, two hours, you'll have two hours' worth of fuel in the tank. Well, more, but the point is you won't run out.

Mind you...if you're planning on learning to fly for economic reasons, bad idea. You're not going to save any money, unless you're taking flights every weekend.

This is for a Piper Warrior II. Cessnas are usually cheaper.

The FBO ( fixed base operator ) renting the plane will pay for the gas if the plane is rented "wet", i.e., if the rental price includes gas. Not all FBO rent their planes wet.

If you are taking a trip to say, Hartford and need to fill up there, your FBO will reimburse you for the gas you filled there ( if there is a difference in gas prices, then you will have to pay the difference or vice versa ).
