Hey guys. I just started up with Folding@Home for team anandtech and am leaving it as my screen saver. I'm new to this, so any info would be great. thanks.

I run the gui as well, but keep it minimized in the toolbar.
I'm sure others will offer more helpful info.......I'm getting ready to head out on my honeymoon for 9 nights. Welcome to the TeAm.

First of all, welcome to the TeAm! Once your computer completes its first Work Unit (WU), you will show up in the stats, and receive your official welcome in the stats thread. :)

The screensaver is a good way to get started, but before long you'll become addicted to increasing your stats, and you might decide to find something a bit more efficient. You see, even when you're tying something in MS Word, or browsing the internet, you're still not using anywhere near the full capacity of your CPU.

To take advantage of this extra time that is "wasted" while you're at your computer and the screensaver isn't running, F@H has some clients that you could use instead (never install two clients at once unless you have a multi-processor or multi-core system and know what you're doing - we'll be glad to help) of the screensaver.

There is a GUI (graphical) client, which you can call up from the system tray whenever you want to see the pretty graphics, though it will still run at all times, taking advantage of unused CPU power while silently yielding whenever you want to run a game or do something else that requires all of your processor's time.

If you're happy running the screensaver for now, there's nothing wrong with that, but as most people around here are interested in getting the most performance out of everything, I thought I'd throw in a tip on how to optimize F@H. Don't feel bad if you don't want to do this - no one will look down on you if you keep running the screensaver. We're glad to have you here, and happy crunching!

Welcome to the TeAm, Mik3y :)

Nice computer! It should crunch through WUs (work units) fast :D

WUs of different proteins take different lengths of time to finish. Usually the longer it takes to crunch, the more points it is worth. Stanford (Folding@Home, or F@H, or FaH) benchmarks all projects on a P4 2.8.

Thanks for joining and especially thanks for posting

Don't panic when it takes a couple days or maybe even a week for you to show up in the stats, usually the first couple units you get are big and slow. Welcome aboard!
