Well. during my ban (so i couldnt post about it :( ) i finished my chess cabinet that i referred to in another thread around here. it's just a chess board table, but it looks really nice :)

Looks like you picked up a good trade while doing the hard time.
:p

Nice mitres on the table top (for those who haven't worked with wood it is sometimes difficult to have everything square).

Is that walnut? I can't really tell with this so-so laptop I'm viewing it with.

I wouldn't have used those hinges with those pulls and I would have made it taller. But those I just my personal preferences, though.

Good job! Now is this being judged at the fair?
I wonder what the others did in their wood projects...

yeah, solid walnut with a walnut and maple inlay for the most part, side panels, bottom, and a liner under the inlay are plywood. it's built to be SUPER sturdy. i used the same construction style as i did in my desk extension...
furthest piece of furniture, in the corner, here.. i think it looks really nice. it's being judged, now, yes.

oh, and you wouldnt beleive how hard it is to find quality hardware for a cheaper price. this has drawers and doors on both sides, identical, and everything, and it came to 90 dollars for just the hardware, and 130 dollars for the wood. it looks really nice, though. i';ve already gotten offers of 800 for it, and just as much for duplicates of it. i still have my plans and everything, if i ever wanted to make a dupe of it. but this was done in my woodshop at school, though im working on it, im not just quite as well off in tools available at my disposal as the school is. (getting closer... planer, lathe, sander planer, Radial Arm saw, and a jointer to go, and i'm there :D)

jeebus, that thing must weigh a ton! Something that small and built like that? Oh well, my first projects went like that too. I've been doing wood projects in my spare time for the past - oh geez, I think before you were born (I started in my grandfather's shop when I was 11 - 25 years ago. crap now I feel really old. :( )

I know quite well how much those little pretty pieces of metal cost. Hey, get banned again and spend your time learning forging! It really isn't that hard to make your own hardware and all the tools you need should be in possession already.

Hey if someone offered you $800 for that then sell it! If you continue to do this, you'll find out how hard it is to actually pin someone down on their offering price. If I do any projects for someone else now, I have them pay half up front. If they don't pay the rest, I refund them their money - minus the costs of wood, tools and time.

By the way, as tools go, Shopsmith rules all!
