I just got this laptop last night, it's my first ever, so feel free to call me stupid when I say some of this. When I go into starcraft... the screen is condensed into a little screen right in the middle of mine, it looks like I'm playing the letterbox version of a DVD only with a game... a friend of mine said that It was because I was running starcraft in 640... but that doesn't really help because you can't adjust the settings for the graphics to starcraft anyways... can you? if anyone knows how I can fix this, please let me know.

you cannot adjust.

set your desktop into 640*480, and size it as if that was going to be your size. make sure you do it under 256 colors. once windows knows the defualt you would like, it will keep the screen settings for all apps switching to 640*480x256 colors.

i *think* sc is 256, im almost sure. i love sc. actually you SHOULD do this for every size...and color combination. some cards are just picky.

and sc runs only at 640*480, dont let anyone else tell you otherwise. sheesh.

cant stop my hydra + fart

This blows... I can't believe that you HAVE to run it like that... you can't run it any better than that.... why can't a laptop adjust like a regular PC... this sucks.

Some laptops have a "true resolution" mode where the screen is condensed to the middle but uses 1-for-1 pixel display. That is, if I've got a game running at 640x480, it displays using 640x480 pixels instead of stretching to fill the entire screen. If your laptop has this function, it's *probably* a toggle using the function key (mine is Fn-6, I think). Which laptop model do you have?

I looked around the HP site and it seems like your "video expansion" is a setting in the BIOS. There were a couple of n5000 notebooks, but the FAQ for the n5195 says:

QUESTION: Why is there a black border around the screen when I set the resolution to anything lower than 1024 x 768?

ANSWER: Video expansion is not enabled. Video expansion can be enabled in the BIOS setup utility by pressing F2 at the initial startup screen.

BBD, I haven't used your way yet, but I'll try it... Tenchim, the way you gave me does work, but the graphics are really crappy, you can see blocks in the lettering and whatnot, it just puts out a junky image. I'm going to try your way now BBD.

good luck, i know it fixed my desktop when the image wasnt centered/fully zoomed, hopefully you can do it on your laptop

it might be hard since you dont have OSD on all(any?) laptops

yeah, your way didn't work BBD... but I think i'll get used to the lack of space on the desktop... I have to move the mouse less now rather than going accross the whole screen... if anyone has any ideas.... let me know.... and monto... I still have those 36 hour marathons of Starcraft. A few of my friends just got the game and came over to my house and proceeded to say "Check out this new game, it's awesome" I was like... that games fairly old... it's pretty cool though... and ever since we've been having little 6 person lan parties every other weekend.

Hey, I never said it would look any better. :) A laptop screen is highly pixelated, more so than a CRT monitor, and draws lines based on a "closet pixel" way so that's why the stretched screen looks blocky on your LCD monitor. It should be BBD's way will look the same as stretching it in BIOS.

well.. I've got about 2-3" on each side of the playing screen on all sides... when I'm used to having the game take up a whole 15" monitor. Guess it's just an adjustment. LMK if anyone else has any ideas.
