Sticky is not needed.

People can learn to search.

The title (although "unapproved") and the fact that the thread was the first to show is why the others are getting locked as fast as I can find them.

BF2 threads everywhere... post Oblivion and you get locked. Nice job!

I appreciate your concern but the mods are locking down butt-loads of unofficial oblivion threads.
Right now it is a highly discussed game and we could clean up the clutter in Software for a month or so by making the semi-official thread a sticky.

If people will use the "official' thread and learn to search (as the Mod stated in the original post), the thread will be close to the top and the sticky will not be required.

These bolded items are two big assumptions.

Oh come on... this is game of the year material, both in depth and in graphics, and you're relegating it to a single thread?!?! You've got to be kidding!! It'll blow over; just let it have its run. Anandtech should appreciate the levels this game brings us in terms of technology and game-play. No doubt it'll even be used as a benchmark for future Anandtech reviews. You guys are really going too far when you single out one game and lock all threads that mention it. Completely unnecessary.

I understand the locks.

But at least consider making the official thread a sticky for a while.
It is a very popular game.

people must need to learn new searching methods. i just put oblivion into the search for the software forum and it didn't come up in the 2 pages that were returned. probably because of the lack of space between * and oblivion. so yeah.

hehe even if you put *official*Oblivion into the search it still doesn't find the thread.

pretty ludicrous imo to restrict it to one thread. alot of the locked threads are troubleshooting and "HELP!!" threads.

as thera mentioned, its a hugely popular game that should be allowed to run its course.

A quick search showed 10+ threads on Oblivion just in the past 3-4 days.
that many will just as easily prevent people from searching for the correct info that is requested and/or bragged abouit.

By having it in one thread, the search feature of the browser can be used as well.

did you read what i posted? you can't find the "official" thread by searching unless you're using something other than oblivion...which wouldn't make much sense.

edit: now if you change "search what" to 'title and summary' instead of 'title and body' you can find the thread.

edit 2: which makes no sense because oblivion is in the title, not the summary. does 'title or body' not mean that it searches both to see if it's mentioned in either? or is search broke and you would rather belittle people who have searched rather than realize it's not coming up for people?

Using the Search function at the top of the S/w forum shows the reference thread on the first page of the results.

either way, if someone visits the S/W forum, they should be able to look through a page or two before posting the question.

Many just post even if the "oblivion" thread is on the first page.

As minendo stated, to many stickies become a problem.

i don't think it needs a sticky either. i'm using the forum search function. and yes people SHOULD be able to see it on the first or second page. but you can't say "learn to search" when you click on search, enter it in and it doesn't come up.

i wasn't looking for a sticky, we have too many of them.

i just think that the thread is going to get so overwhelming it will be impossible/impractical to post specific questions there, especially troubleshooting.

try finding useful info in the dfi stickied thread. yet we don't see all dfi nf4 threads locked.

LOL, i didn't know there were that many :p

point taken. still, i don't think the trouble shooting threads should be locked.

like the mods care what i think :p

Of course we care; you are the most important person to us in the same time frame that the bigbang happened.

however .....

there is a saying, I think, therefore I am.

Please stop locking oblivion threads. It's really, really annoying. Please stop.

Yes there are a lot of threads but it's a new title and very popular.
I don't want to wade through a nearly 600 post thread to find what I'm looking for or follow a particular topic.

Yes I know how to search but results are sporadic and not useful for following one of many discussions munged into one thread. "learn to search" is a complete cop-out. What if I want to "discuss" the topic instead of find one particular set of keywords?

The snapshot that someone took above illustrates what you are doing here. Try to follow just ONE of those conversations when all of them have been munged into the one with 588 posts. It's impossible.

You have basically made gathering information about Oblivion a complete chore. There is more than one "topic" under oblivion.

Why aren't you doing the same "consolidation" for: BF2, Vista, Ubuntu, Firefox, Gun etc?

Please stop. Thanks.

Did you *see* this pic? I mean, that's over 40+ threads in less than a week's time. 6-7 per day.

Yes, you guys found a new game. Yes, it looks pretty cool. Yes, we're happy for you. But you have completely drowned out all other threads in that forum. The snapshot of all the posts looks eerily similar to the "oblivion" search results.

You're not being picked on. When BF2 came out, there were tons of locked threads. When the the uber graphics cards some out, there are tons of locked threads. There aren't separate threads for each item on sale at Fry's in Hot Deals. The 9/11-conspiracy threads in P&N get locked and are attempted to be consolidated to a single thread.

Wait until the hype cools down and you'll have free-reign to post every single "I just killed a were-toad!! Pics and video included!" topic, just like the WoW guys can now.

Seems like something that Moonbeam might understand - send him the link and see what his response is.

You guys need to stop locking every single oblivion thread as well. The post a pic thread is pretty damn long as it is, and now you want all those posts to be put in the 'official' thread? We're going to have a thousand post thread with all disjointed topics. Yay!

vs a thousand threads on one subject that would then push off other S/W topics.

I vote for the single game thread at this point.

We wouldn't expect otherwise, since you're such a "company" man.
