Its just I remember you boasting in a thread about how Asians will eat anything.

Then tonight I saw these 2 petitions at the Petitions website,

First is this one concerning St Bernards, which apparently are popular because they are docile & grow quick, apparent they skin them alive as the adrenal secretions make the meat taste better.

& then there's this petition concerning Dogs & Cats being tortured in Specifically Korea, for the same reason.

Now that isn't very nice is it, i've seen cats being killed on tv in china for food...and many times they do not make sure the cat is dead before frying it in hot oil.

is that petitions site against eating cats and dogs or just against torturing the animals before eating them?

I wouldn't be surprised. Many atrocities are commited by humans against animals in the name of good "taste".

Calves are confined in tiny pens and basically tortured to produce fine veal.

Geese are subjected to horrible atrocities in France to produce their fine pates.

Chickens and cattle live in "unnatural" conditons to feed our appetite for meat.

I'd probably be a vegetarian for "humane" reasons, except that I am already am one for health reasons.

I saw a special on dateline a few years back about these Chinse restaraunts cooking cats. They showed the video where they would take live cats by the tail and dip them into this boiling substance. They would then take then out and skin them alive :|

dabbadabba ?

now you are going to tell us that in all your worldly travels in your Hashish Haze you never ate dog or cat ?

& by the way, why is auzzie land Old Zealand ?

PS:

Monel ? why do you not feel the same protective urges for Canada Geese. Chasing one into a high tension powerline appears to be torture worse than a little hot oil or whatever... ?

Did you notice anyone at all can start a petition on that site? I'm not saying the atrocities are not taking place, but of what value is signing a petition that may have no supporting facts?

The meat industry is inherently cruel, what seems either tolerable or inhumane is separated by only a few degrees.

<<No supposting facts????>>

South Korea is famous for its fast food dog burger. Dog is considered a delicacy. The more a dog is tortured before it dies - it is believed - the greater the aphrodesiac effect on the man who eats it.

If you have any doubts, just do a search for "animal torture" on a good web search engine. You will get plenty of stomach turning pictures and documentation.

(I am pretty lazy to post links anyway; but I am not sure they are appropiate for the Forum's children since they are so graphic.)

There is NO doubt.

<< don't cooks boil the lobster live at seafood restaurants? >>

Yup, that's the way to do it. But I heard once that if you want to be "nice" to the lobster you put it in when the water is still relatively cool. Then as you increase the temperature the lobster just kinda falls asleep or something to that effect and doesn't feel a thing when it's being cooked.
I don't know if it's true, but I believe this way would be more humane than tossing them into boiling water.

I'm not saying the practice described above doesn't take place, sadly it no doubt does happen.

What I am sayhing is that petition palace is of no value, I or anyone could go there and start a petition for anything - and then collect "votes" from all over the Internet, with no way of verifying one person signed it only one time, etc. Then you'd have to present the petition (in whatever state of validity) to someone or some place which actually cared.

Cxim, I don't see how your view is of any value.

A) The goose thing was a total freak accident. HTF do you consider it my fault for whacking a goose with a golf ball in mid air?

B) This thing about dogs/cats is intentional torture. Killing an animal for meat is one thing. Making it suffer through a living hell for hours to "make the meat taste better" and turn it into an aphrodesiac is different all together. Oh wow. Lemme see. Does this mean the gross majority of Asians "get off" on watching animals suffer? Its what it sounds like to me. Let me boil one of the bastards alive that believe in this theory. I think it makes human meat taste better, and "gets me off". Funny how the tune changes with the tables turned. :|

Whoa! Truly gross. Keep your hands off my dawgs! And touch my cats at your peril! I am not kidding. This is barbaric. Almost as bad as eating cows. :p

As jhu said most lobsters are boiled alive, we just dont' care because they don't buck around and squeel as disturbingly as a cat or dog certainly would.

I will not sign a petition like this until I am convinced I'm not being a hypocrite. I eat lobster and cows and all the other meats in Western society, and although I find that skinning dogs alive is horrible I can't say that the cows I eat have a great life either. Its like the "he who has no sins be the first to through a stone" deal...it just seems a bit holier-than-thou for me to sign something like this when I will indulge in a freshly cooked-alive lobster.

The only meat I eat is chicken. I have been to farms and they look like they would be content until they get their heads chopped off(Do they still do this?). Have you ever seen those trucks on the highway with all the chickens in the little cages though? I don't know if they like that very much.

My aunt ate at a chinease place once.
Said the chicken tasted weird.
The next week the chinease place was closed down.
On the local news channel they said that the place cooked cats.
Kinda weird, never know what your biting into. :Q

The only reason we are disgusted by eating cats and dogs and not by cows is that most of us don't have pet cows, but most of us have a pet cat or dog, or knows someone who does. If culture had never domesticated dogs or cats, we probably would never even start complaining about it.

Eddie:

I heard the same thing. I believe it was in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Guess I won't be eating any Chinese there. :p
