Hey I just got flamed! WTF?

I posted a question about using UT2K3 in a virtual disc situation and I got flamed for being a software pirate. I paid cash for the game at Bestbuy. People, the response I saw to my post was disgusting. Please don't flame someone when you think they are a pirate because until you see their reciept or lack of one, you never know. I didn't know that the only reason UT2K3 needs the cd is for copy protection. So i thoughtit would be a good idea to use the disc virtually on my harddrive to increase access times. Well I got flamed for trying to pirate the cd, and got accused as being a 14 year old, undeserving, twit that would rather "scam" the game than pay for it like normal humans. Well I paid cash for it and otherwise had everyright to post my question. If I can't post questions on this board without being flamed I won't post here.

This is mostly a request for people to chill out on "calling software pirates out". As petty as it seems, thats accusing someone of a crime that carries penalties that would definately have an adverse affect on someone's life.
 
Why didn't you just pm defref, because it seems that he was the only one who needed to chill out.
 
The flamer got a well deserved banning for a week. I'd just try to drop it, the guy was being an idiot and has been dealt with appropriately.

Plus its still an anonymous internet forum. You get all kinds of losers. People here will help you, don't let the others get to you, they are here just to get a rise from people.

Please tell me your joking (I saw no mod comments in the other thread). If anyone gets banned then TechBoyJK should too (he made the friggin idiot and eat d1ck comments in the other thread). And he can't even figure out this thread belongs in OT 😉

I missed that, I had seen the begining of the posts and thought TechBoyJK was just as responisble due to the way he responded. Oh well (and no offense TechBoy!), I'm sure calmer heads will reign come next week.

I see your point, TechBoy. But that's one of the major downsides to msg boards... That people can post relatively anonymously, and with relatively little recourse.

It gets worse when the "mob mentality" kicks in. Had you not posted so quickly in reply, or if it were in a busier forum (like Off Topic), then I'm sure many others would've joined in the fracus.

But you'll see that there are many upsides to this msg board, which imho, is the finest tech board on the 'net. You are going to run up against people like that guy... No way to avoid it.
 
Oh I will admit, "eat a dk" wasn't appropriate. And I edited my post and removed it because of that. And my response came out of need for a quick reply rather than a well thought through retort.
 
Hey! I have an idea! Download the latest official patch which removes the need to keep the CD in your drive!

No need to use shady cd-cracks or virtual disc, because even Epic realized forcing you to keep the cd in the drive isn't cool.

Now we can all be happy.

EDIT: And I'm no pirate so don't flame me omg! I paid for ut2003 too. I don't want all the PC software devs to turn to consoles because of the bootlegging on PCs so I support them.
 
Damn, sorry, did a search for postings about UT2003 and UT2K3 and didn't come up with anything. Anyway, I posted (again) about the new patch removing CD requirement. Sorry. 🙂
 
Thanks guys but the problem is already solved. Before finding the patch, I used alcohol 120% to create an image and used daemon works to mount and simulate securom protection. This worked fine. After applying the patch, I didn't need any image whatsoever.

I actually got flamed on another post and I posted this one to bring the sad flame I got to everyone's attention and to set an example.
