Hey guys

My issue is with Windows Media Maker, basically I took a clip of a film that I'd like to present and I am trying to save it to my computer/hard drive.

I tried saving the movie to a CD, to my desktop/etc. No luck.

According to google, it might be a codec problem. I tried downloading a Community Codec Pack, but with no luck.

I still get this message when I am partially done saving (around 18-19% in) and it says
Windows MM cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify the original source files used in your movie are still avaliable, that the saving location is still avaliable, and that there is enough free disk space avaliable, and then try again.

So, it seems like it might be a codec problem.

I will be thankful for help.

Try using VLC media player to play the videos. Also, if you're saving them from youtube, there's an extension for firefox to make that simple; saves them as .flv files. VLC plays them no problem. This thread moved from OT to software for windows by DrPizza

FFDShow, never codec packs

And WMM sucks, I'm afraid. Try saving in a different format. Without specific settings, I can't troubleshoot well, but make sure there is enough drive space and you are saving to valid location (guessing you already are). What's the total estimate filesize or bitrate (video and audio) of the file? Really need some more info here.

That's not a codec problem, and this is not the software forum.

This isn't rehabilitation center for stoners either, yet I see that hasn't deterred you. This has nothing to do with software, it has to do with movies, so I suggest you either contribute or leave me alone.

Even more help

Look man, I used google, I've been looking up this problem. It's a common problem, and supposedly its a codec problem. I tried rectifying, but I turned to almighty ATOT. You guys should be flattered ffs.

Why do I need psychological help?

Hey!! Is your name, like, an Apple Macintosh product? Or is your name a hilariously creative and original spelling mistake coupled with a wonderfully cultured and endearing term for a male sexual afficionado?

OHHHH WAIT does it mean you like Mac'n'cheese? I like Mac'n'cheese too ^_^

Then go to a freaking MOVIE forum, not a TECHNOLOGY forum.

Thanks man, I tried a different format, didn't work. I installed that, didn't work. I converted it off of Youtube and saved it as a .wmv. That might be my problem. I have some other clips saved as .avi's. I'll try those, see if I have any luck.

hai2u. No. Yes, sorta.

I don't like mac'n'cheese, and I like people who have something to contribute, which you don't apparently.

Maybe that's what yer problem is? You has to download it in a mac first. Either Apple or Kraft, both are faster than a stupit pc anyways.

Or maybe just shorten it to a 3 letter name: Mac
That way he can be more like you 😀

Mac is actually a really manly name. You can't own a Mac and be a Mac at the same time (but you can like mac'n'cheese!)

Edit: That reminds me  This chick in HS a year ahead of me used to call me Nik Nack Daddy Mac

Aight, well I sort of figured it out. .avi works, but .wmv doesn't. So it definitely sounds like some sort of codec problem one way or the other.

Thanks for all the help. And Nik, I wuv u 2.

Wmv is proprietary garbage. Decent compression at lower bitrates, but give me a good AVI, MKV or MP4 container and open codecs 🙂

I avoid WMV/WMA and WMP/WMM like the plague. Heck, if it starts with a "W" I'm a bit hesitant to use it .
