The past couple of years just flew by me and I didn't have a chance to play many games. Since this summer I am not working/studying I decided to catch-up with all the games I missed and so far I have played and beaten:
Mass Effect 1+2
Batman AA
Duke Nukem Forever
Bioshock 1+2
Assassins Creed 1+2+Brotherhood
Portal 2
Resident Evil 5

I tried to play Dragon Age Origins but I just couldn't sit through it I thought the game was extremely boring. Fallout 3 keeps crashing on me and I just uninstalled it.

So right now I am thinking about buying The Witcher but I wanted to see what games people would recommend me here before I buy it.

Fallout New Vegas is better than FO3, but if your setup doesn't like one Gamebryo engine game it might not like the other either.

I'm playing Borderlands now thanks to a Steam sale that included all the DLC for <$15 and it's a lot of fun. It's the FPS version of Diablo and Torchlight with guns as the loot.

If you're forgiving of old graphics, there are other Bioware, Obsidian and Troika RPGs:
Star Wars KOTOR I - II
Neverwinter Nights I - II
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

I loved DA:O and thought the Witcher was boring.
Did Dragon Age getting any better then the first hour? I got up to where you have the mage girl join the party and you go into the next town.

I was enjoying Fallout 3 but the I got stuck in a bathroom in Megaton. Autosave saved me inside the bathroom in Megaton so everytime I log in it insta-crashes. I don't want to deal with that crap.

Thanks for the recommendations looking into those games right now. I have Borderlands too.

It's a RPG with unlimited saves, at any time. Why in His Noodly Name were you relying on just one autosave!?

Save early, save often. Ramen.

Dragon Age gets better in the 2nd hour. And the 3rd hour. But in the 4th hour it kinda dips, and the 5th hour really sucks a lot. The 6th hour is a little better but not really as good as the second. And the 7th hour made me want to smash my head on the corner of my desk. The 8th hour is probably the best hour in the game, so it's worth powering through the 7th hour to get there. The 9th hour has a lot dialogue if you're into that sort of thing. The 10th hour really gets going as the plot starts to pick up and seemingly random events begin to make sense.

I'm going to bed now, will post my review of hours 11 through 85 tomorrow.

Try dragon age 2. It's got some plot holes and some consolitis but overall I found it fun. It's like dragon age origins for add kids(like myself)

You should try New Vegas...it is supposedly less buggy. I'm near the end...I think. with zero problems. I've only played jsut into the first town of FO3, so I don't know if that's screwed for me or not.

but what I can say...is that New Vegas, at least...is pretty much a perfect game. It's truly god damn amazing.

I'd also suggest Borderlands, but it looks like you're into compelling story-driven games. You don't get that with Borderlands; just some addictive gun play and RPG-like FPS action. great characters, dialogue, and voice acting, though. ....just no story.

Skip The Witcher and go for Witcher 2 instead. Better game IMHO. Fallout 3 requires a fix for running with more than 2 physical/logical CPU cores in order to not crash. New Vegas is much better game though.

Darksiders, Dead Space 2, Red Faction: Guerilla, Bulletstorm, are all action titles that you might like.

As for fixing Fallout 3;
Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

Might give this a shot but I read a lot of people bashing it so I am a bit skeptical...

That's another game on my list, if it's anything like FO3 minus the bugs, it's good.

Thanks for the suggestions, I actually just started Dead Space and I am liking it. A coworker suggested I try it way back and I remembered it while I was browsing Steam and picked it up. Freaky but fun and the controls feel a bit... sluggish

LOL, thanks for that but I didn't really want to continue the game after first hour passed by and I was just getting bored out of my mind. Felt like a generic fantasy RPG to me.

Haha, I don't know why I keep 1 save file for every game I play. It has burned me many times before but I continue to do it. What can I say I have a psychological problem I guess.
^ ditto, metro
I have had this game for quite a while. Just used it as a benchmark though, I played a little bit of the campaign but never really got the time to sit down and play through it before.

I am playing Dead Space right now and it's really fun. It's like Resident Evil ....in space.
Speaking of Resident Evil, I also beat the 5th one. Jesus they completely changed the game, it's not even survival horror anymore it's a goddamn third person action shooter....

Madballs Invasion and Spiral Knights are 2 excellent casual games. Spiral Knights is a F2P with a in game store which nickel and dimes you to death though.

Just Cause 2 is a great game thats very much like the GTA series except your a super CIA agent sent to kill another agent.

Ah was going to post Just Cause 2.

I had fun with Trine too.

If you don't mind multiplayer I recommend the F2P shooter global agenda.

Borderlands - but its best with a friend in co-op
Metro2033
Stalker - shadow of chernobyl
Fortress Forever - its a free team fortress modification for the source engine

I would suggest left 4 dead 2, but the community has really gone downhill lately. Its gotten to the point where I only play when I have someone on my friends list on my team. To stop griefers from ruining the game, you really need 3 friends on a team, so that you can vote kick. I have seen a lot of times where griefers were working in pairs, kill themselves, and then both would leave the game.

Over the past 4 or 5 years there have been very few games that have made me say "wow". Borderlands is one of the games that really stands out, but to get the most of the game your going to need to play with a friend. Stalker - shadow of chernobyl was fun, for a little while, but there were design flaws that took away from the overall experience.

I'm going to echo the Borderlands sentiments...it is one hell of a fun game if you play co-op with a friend. It's still fun to play on your own too, but much more so if you have someone you can laugh with. There are some pretty funny bits of dialogue. I kind of like that it isn't really extra story driven; it's an easy game to jump into, play for a bit, have fun and then leave for a while. It's a nice diversion from those 'heavier' games (if that makes sense).

Borderlands
Darksiders
The Witcher - Yes, at first it feels really slow, but picks up after chapter 2 and I freaking loved this game. (It looks beautiful after applying the high texture mod.)
STALKER - Started playing this series.. and liked it.. although it gets on your nerves from time to time.

Get this, I'm playing Lego: Harry Potter Years 1-4 and having a blast. I have two games going: one with my son, one by myself. Splitscreen works well on the PC, however keyboard control takes a little bit to get used to (no mouse).

If you like Diablo like ARPGs you should definitly check out Torchlight and Titan Quest: Immortal Throne.
Torchlight is a simply, but very fun, game. Although Torchlight 2 is suppose to be out soon but who knows how soon, they have already missed thier July launch date.

Disabled Vsync in Dead Space and the controls and responsiveness of the game stop being sluggish. For some reason, when you enable V-sync it locks to 30 frames per second. However, at the end of the game you have to enable v-sync to pass a part of the game as the game crashes due to the physics engine going nuts when the game is not locked to 30 fps...

People bash it because it's nothing like dragon age origins which was a hugely respected game by the fantasy nerds. It's still a solid game on it's own.
