I'm looking to buy a new Mp3 player, currently I have a nomad II with 32 megs and it really doesn't cut it for me. I mean the thing hold 5 songs and I have 11 gigs of MP3's I want instant access to. I want to get a nomad Jukebox but I can't decide between that or a regular MP3 cd player. What do you guys thing, also what brands of MP3 portable CD players are out there? I want to get a good one and not one a cheezy one that will skip all the time. how much should I expect to pay for a MP3 Cd player and how much for a nomad jukebox?

LMK
thanks guys

I COULD go through my long spiel on what CD/MP3 player is best..

but in your case, if you don't want a CD player, I suggest the Apple one.. I can't remember the name of it (I think it's the I-Pod) but it kicks ass due to it's large memory buffer and small size. the memory buffer allows the hard drive to spin down, reducing battery life (I don't know if the creative labs ones have anything like this).

IMHO, the Apple hard drive MP3 player is the best hard drive based MP3 player out there (it also has firewire for a much better transfer rate compared to USB 1.0 🙂

if you want a CD/MP3 player there are really only two choices that have alot of reviews on the net: the RioVolt SP100 (the original one), and the RioVolt SP250. both are excellent players, the SP250 has a MSRP of I think $180 US. for more info on the differences of these two players, do a search (u might find one long post by me) on these forums.

also, there are a few others u might want to try finding reviews of (if u do please post them here, cuase so far I've had little success finding many reviews of them). The TDK Mojo is one, two others are also potential competitors that I know of (but have little info about). One is made by Sony, and the other by Panasonic. what little I DO know about these is that the Panasonic one doesn't have any I3D tag reading capabilities, and the Sony one potentially has the AFAIK great G-Protection capabilities (I have no idea if this uses anti shock memory at all, and no personal experience with it to find how good it really is).

I think u can find Sony's CD/MP3 player on their website, but I don't know about panasonic..

The Ipod only works with MACs and not PCs. Yes, Creative's Nomad Jukebox currently uses a USB connection to transfer files but a firewire version is coming out soon. The 6gb jukebox is now $199 and the 20gb is $349. Both are significantly cheaper than the 5gb Ipod. I'd go with a Nomad Jukebox. If you don't want to use Creative's Playcenter software there are alternatives available at www.nomadness.net.

Get the Rio Volt. It is so awesome. Backlit LCD and all. Cool black case, $150 bucks, not bad compared to the GB hard drive players that cost an arm and a leg.

You have a Nomad II right? Flash it to the latest firmware, buy a 128MB Smart Media from Newegg for $54, and use Windows Media Player to encode 64kbps WMA's and you're good to go.

Of course you still have the option to purchase another player. Personally, I would choose the RioVolt SP250

I am thinking about getting the creative jukebox 20 gig version. I would rather have that than a cd/mp3 player because I am so sick of cd's. Does anyone have the 20 gig jukebox?

I vote the iPod....it is the slickest one out there and the most feature rich. Plus, you're getting a 5 GB Drive that you can boot off of....Awesome for adiminstrators. Normally an external 5 GB FireWire Drive is about the same price as the iPod...almost getting mp3 playback for free...

I have a 20gb one. I had the 6gb one for about a year but ran out of space on it. I know a lot of people around here hate Creative, but the Nomad Jukebox is a great product. Yeah, it takes a while to transfer a large number of MP3s over to it but its no big deal since I put all of my music on it when I got it and only upload a few new MP3s to it once in a while. It has EAX four speaker support. the ability to record audio, and handles large playlists pretty well. It does the job for me.

The batteries last around 4 to 5 hours before they need recharging. Boot up times seem to vary between people I've talked to. Mine boots up in about 45 sec to 1 min and has 11gb of mp3s on it. I you run the disk defrag utilility once in a while, it seems to keep boot times down. Hope this helps.
