hey guys, can you critique/judge my case power consumption / cooling setup

Hi, I'm wondering what you guys think of my current PC setup.

As some may know, my 6600GT burned a chip a few days ago because that morning the PC didn't want to turn on. Waiting for MSI RMA to finish with it. Since that day I've been focusing more on the health and improving my PC so this doesn't happen in the future.

Anyways, here's how my potential PC setup looks like, everything is there now except for the 6600GT and Vantec spectrum pci cooler. Text

here's a pic/stats of the vantec spectrum pci cooler

I'm using 4 80mm fans connected to the vantec nexus controller and one onto the antec truepower II 2.0 PSU. (12V1 @ 17A, 12V2 @17A).

I also took off the LCD temperature reader for the Aspire X-dreamer II and put it on my new case.

so to sum it up, I'm going to be using this:
Antec TP II 430W
Asus K8V SE DX
A64 3000+ S 754
6600gt (in process of RMA, using 9800Pro for now)
512x2 (1GB) Kingston PC3200
2xHDD (160gb samsung and 100gb MDT)
Vantec fan controller
floppy
Sony DVD reader
Liteon CDR max speeds
5x 80mm fans, 4 on fan controller, 1 on PSU. (none of the fans are connected to MB)

I don't overclock and I don't have an AC in my room either, southern california temperatures are mild in spring and gets hot in summer.

all opinions/criticizing will help me understand my pc's ability to live long and will be helpful

thanks,
vic

That should be more than enough cooling. Chances are the chip that fried on you didn't fry because of heat; it probably just was a slightly defective one that just died.

i agree completely with cheesepoofs.. however if you're the type that likes to do little modifications (like me 😛) partially to lower temps/improve airflow and partially jsut do to the mod, then you may want to consider cutting a 90 or 120mm blowhole in the top.. also, what size and cfm fans will be in each of the spots in your picture?

the 6600gt met a stupid fate, as the chip had a small fire on it for 3 seconds while I was amazed and immediately turned off the PC.

Each of the fans are going to be 80mm, but I'm thinking of replacing oen with a 120mm.

I've been reading on the board that there seems to be mixed views on 120mm, since some say that larger = spin slower but same amount of air as 80mm = less noise.

Other place I've been reading that the 120mm's sounds like a monster.

any other inputs?

it really depends. if you get one designed for super high crazy air flow its going to be loud. but if you get one that performs about the same as a decent 80mm its going to be VERY quiet

super crazy air flow and pretty loud
moderate to high airflow and low to moderate noise levels

if you have space for 120mm fans in your case.. and you dont mind spending a few extra bucks (compared to generic fans), i'd go with the panaflos, you wont be dissapointed.
