I despise those commercials. I hate that baby. I hate every marketing exec that designed that commercial. I will never, ever use etrade thanks to those commercials. Fuck them forever.

wow, you really dislike children

No, I really dislike terrible advertising.

that may be true but it did it's job...you recognize the brand, you know what it signifies and it is retained in your memory.

the ideal advertising does that AND makes you want to use the product, but that can never be successful...100% of the time.

so, as much as you hate it you know what it is just by the mere mention of it and it hooked you........all someone has to do is mention Etrade and you immediately think of that baby commercial you hate.....I would say it did it's job.

I know this. But you have to understand something about me. I despise the majority of advertising out there. An ad has NEVER gotten me to buy a product - but an ad that pisses me off will cause me to boycott a company. I like Jack In The Box, but ever since that commercial with the grown men screaming in a stroller, I will not eat there. I will never purchase an apple product due to their advertising, etc.

I suppose I'm different in that regard. Companies are better off not advertising to me, because it can only hurt them.

Why would you stop buying something that you like because of an ad? Who cares? It's not like your boycott makes any differnce other than depriving yourself from the food/item you like?

I think a better option would be just ignore tha damn commercials...not that hard to do...I usually mute or change channels if an ad is really annoying, otherwise it just goes in one ear and out the other

Hmmmm you aren't very familiar with how business works, are you? If I stop buying from them, they lose my business. They do something I don't like, so I don't purchase their product. There are other alternatives to all of those things that don't piss me off, so why should I reward the company that does things I don't like?

I am familiar w/ how business works...and your boycott makes no differance to anyone but you.

...and the company that is no longer getting my business. Is the loss of one customer going to make a huge impact to them? No, but that's as much impact as one customer can make. I will not support companies I don't like, its very simple.

I understand that part- what I don't get is that if you DO like a company (you like their product), then a simple advertisment should not be enough to all of a sudden make you not like them...Why put 100% of a companies worth in one advertisment that you don't like?
For example, if E-Trade was a *great* brokerage (I have no idea if they are or not), to simply chose a lesser competetor because you don't like the baby doesn't make sense.
