Hey fitness people, question for ya

I have This 20kg dumbell set and a 45 degree bench, and a pair of these hand/forearm excerciser thingys.

Now i know to gain muscle its more about weight than reps. But im poor and dont wanna buy anything heavier right now, i can do 50 reps in a set with those dumbells which is a lot, time to increase the weight time, but theyre only 10kg each. My question is if i just do lots and lots of reps will i still gain muscle to make up for the lack of weight?

If the answers no, then where can i buy more weights to slide onto those specific dumbells? Argos dosent seem to have any.

Gaining muscle is more a function of your diet than your routine. A sub-par routine with an excellent diet will produce better results than an excellent routine with a crappy diet.

Although on second thoughts its not all bad foods.... packeted meat, a whole ton of carbs, chicken, some steaks, fruit, choclate. Could be worse...

Buy a used set off of craiglist or the local paper. You are wasting your time.
Or checkout Garage Sales. About right now there should be an abundant amount of equipment available as people are looking to get rid of that stuff they got for XMas that's just been collecting dust.

If you are serious about getting muscle, forget dumbells altogether. Do it right and get a barbell, olympic weight set, bench and squat cage (buy used) or get a gym pass that has those.

Stick to compounds (squat, bench, deadlift, press, and power clean AKA Rippetoe's program) and a solid diet. You will gain lots of lean mass, particularly if you're just starting out (which it sounds like).

If you live in the US, check out "Play it Again Sports" or Craigslist for DBs for sale. PIAS has lots, and I mean LOTS of std plates and db bars for real cheap. Like $10 a bar, and on the order of $0.50-0.75/lbs for plates.

Keep the DBs and try to add a BB, if you can. You want the unilateral work plus DBs work the full three degrees of motion, recruiting more stabilizers than a BB alone.

If nothing else, check your university. Most have pretty decent gyms for their teams.
