Hey Fitness Buffs...What's the best exercise for broadening shoulders...

Raises for the anterior, middle and posterior deltoid.
Front raises for the anterior, with dumbells, a barbell, or with a pulley.
Latreral raises for the middle, with dumbells or on a machine.
Bent-over raises for the posterior, again with dumbbells or pulleys.
Do some shrugs to beef your traps, too. i like to warm the traps with dumbbells and move to a barbell so I can go heavier more easily.
EDIT:
Oh, I forgot the military press and the Arnold press. They are for the general shoulder area (deltiods and minor muscles), but they don't isolate the deltoid muscles at all, so you won't get good definition from them, but probably good size.

So you've never lifted weights before?

yup, godmare's got it...
also a note esp with shrugs, you might not have the grip strength to go as heavy as your form and actual trap strength allow so you might want to buy some straps.

Umm, I named some shoulder exercises and equipment used for them (I don't know the name of the machine for lateral rasies...).
Do you want me to explain how to do them?

you can't really broaden your shoulders. you're either born w/ broad shoulders or you're not. what you can do is make you delts larger and more defined. it might be just a matter of semantics though, but i don't really equate making shoulder muscles big to broadening one's shoulders.

Just do lots of military presses and behind the neck presses. Dumbbell shoulder presses are gold too.

Beware, once you build your shoulders your biceps will start looking small.

Well, the best way is to really just adopt a full routine....

I wouldn't recommend a beginner do behind the neck presses, form is crucial in everything, but you can do nerve damage with that exercise if you lower the bar too low (like past your ears, I think it is)

That's true from a perspective... beefing up delst will really make your shoulders stick out, though 🙂

Agreed on that.

Upright rows are another good overall shoulder/trap movement.

Yes, but that can pinch tendons as well, i understand, so I didn't mention it. As long as strict form is used, it's not a problem, but not for just starting out, either.
In this, as in all exercise, form is paramount.
