Hey first time on this forum. Xp 64?

I feel like an idiot about this but I didn't even know it existed. Guess I haven't been paying attention like I should to the operating system news...or AMD rather cuz I've always been intel. Well just got my MSI K8N NEO2 and it's got a free copy of WindowsXP 64bit (beta) Naturally I'm intrigued. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it over Xp Pro? thanks for the help

Probably not. Check the driver thread stickied at the top for some information, and do a search. This gets brought up fairly frequently, and past threads will probably provide some information on it.

It is still beta, and I'm not sure if a release date has been set yet. So there will be plenty of issues, and probably plenty of hardware that still doesn't have drivers.

Hope that helps a bit. 🙂

I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject, so someone correct me if I'm wrong:

Being a 64-bit operating system, it runs efficiently and takes advantage of the Athlon64, yet is still not worth using it as your OS because of the limited driver support. Also, since it's still in beta form, you will run into some problems.

Give it a try though, won't hurt 😛.

Considering that there are virtually no drivers yet and no 64-bit apps, it won't be worth it for quite a while. Even when more apps are ported it'll still be close to pointless since the advantages of being 64-bit are only really seen by really big things like databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc), MS Exchange, 3D renderers with huge scenes, etc.
