And that is why you will never be wealthy to do anything you want. It is this very attitude that is holding you back. Not the evil white man, but your entitlement mentality of "imma gonna get mine rite now dog'!"

To put your attitude in perspective. For the weekend we're going to roast a turkey breast, rice as a side, broccoli, the evil potato and some gravy from the turkey. And the root vegtables from the turkey. That will feed me and my wife for a good 3 days.

What if I want to do is eat burgers from Jack In The Box every day? My biggest love in life is eating. And I love fast food, so by eating fast food I'm absolutely loving my life. I'm a simple person. I don't need trips to Spain, a fancy car or a big house. Give me a Big Cheeseburger on grilled sourdough + 2 tacos from JITB. And I hate to burst your bubble but if I ate nothing but rice and beans I wouldn't be wealthy. $2.50 a day on fast food which would be $1 if I ate "healthy" would be about $500 a year, and I wouldn't be enjoying life. Doesn't seem like a good trade off at all to me. Are you saying $500 a year would make me wealthy? I guess in some 3rd world country maybe.

I don't get that. Now BBQ ribs and brisket or fried pheasant/crappie I have weakness for.. But you can keep that Fast food which gives me loose stool, over salted, tastes like shit.

I eat very healthily on ~ $3/day. You can give anyone a 2500 calorie diet on $100 a month, you just have to learn to cook. Also, I have meat for 2 meals, generally (some meals are excellent and meatless).

Here's a hint, potatoes are cheap.

How in the world can you eat for $3/day? Even if you cook your own food I'm thinking that's a stretch.

I've been trying to like sweet potatoes, but man, I just don't like the taste.

They're really healthy though.

Put some ketchup on there and you'll be fine.

What's with the potato hate? I love potatoes, especially the less butter used (why do people slather butter and sour cream and other shit on every form of potato they eat?).

You, of course, ignore the fact that you can make better quality "fast food" yourself and save a lot of money, make it taste much better (seriously, its not hard to season ground beef, use some good quality cheese and buns and other toppings if you so choose). Hell, I'm sure if you spent a couple of hours experimenting you could even create your own "special sauce" that you could slather on just about anything and make it taste great so that you just spend $10 making that a month and put it on cheap foods and you'll save a ton of money. Hell, you do that, buy some frozen burger patties and you can probably even make money by selling them to your friends.

I like fast food too, but it really is not that hard to DIY and make even better tasting, healthier, and cheaper food.

Because you would feel guilty if you just slathered sour cream all over a stick of butter and ate it without having a healthy food stuff underneath.

Hey man, nobody's saying don't do what you want to do, but to say you can't eat healthy cuz it's too expensive is BS.

You eat junk food because you like it.

You can get those same nutrients from much healthier sources. Not to mention the fact that 99% of those nutrients are located in the skin of the potato, which everybody throws away.

The inside of a potato (the part that everyone eats) is nothing but simple carbs.

So in conclusion, no, potatoes are not "very good for you".

Healthier? Jesus. Put potato in oven, bake, take out and eat. Bam, no added fat or anything and it's a good source of carbs, vitamins, minerals and calories. Honestly, what the hell is the problem with carbs? You should see the amount of carb intake that other cultures have. Lord knows how much rice a person in Asia eats on a daily basis. But the difference is that rice can be simply steamed without any additional undesirable nutrients from the cooking process. I don't think it's the same thing as eating a bunch of enriched breads like rolls and buns but I don't see it any different from baking a potato.

it's actually really do able if you buy in bulk

I'm not trying to knock anyone, but besides bulk purchasing you must have to put a lot of planning into buying your groceries and figuring out your meals for a few weeks.

I subscribe to the QueBert school of thought, but I would really like to go down the other path. Trouble is I can't leave a grocery store (non-bulk) without dropping $75 on mostly meats that lasts about 1.5 weeks and that basically covers dinner.

So if you guys eating healthy on $3 a day want to share some detailed secrets I'm all ears :)

Gotta pay to play in the USA. Being healthy and fit is reserved for the well off in America, the rest of the masses are well fed with the mechanized processed foods that our canine buddies enjoy as well, because if you're not rich, you can eat like a dog then.

Because I don't really like the taste of plain potato. I like the texture of potato and the flavor of butter, cheese, sour cream, chives, and salt. I couldn't eat any of those ingredients by themselves, but together they are a thing of beauty.

where are you still finding combo meals for $5? i guess subway... or jr. bacon deluxes... i'm typically up to $7 for fast food combo meals nowadays. terrible.

I spend $1 on fast food for lunch. A sandwich off the dollar menu and a glass of water. I normally pack a lunch though.

This. What a freaking retarded "study".

KT
LMAO! The empty, extra calories are part of the problem. So, let's do a study where we compare cost based on calorie v calorie. Dumb asses.

Nuts are calorie-dense, loaded with good fats, and provide quite a few vitamins and minerals. Walnuts (English and Black) are my personal favorites.

Eggs, pasta (not in huge portions), rice (whole-grain, not inverted), beans, are all cheap and incredibly good for you.

Rice & beans are nasty as hell
Then you are cooking them wrong. They can be a delicious and savory combo. I like brown rice for the flavor and superior nutrition v. white rice.

I compiled things I liked about certain studies; Because it suits my purposes to agree with them. ;)

What I found was people that eat a handful of nuts a day, live longer. People with pets live longer. People that take naps live longer. People that drink moderately live longer. Married people live longer. I got me bases covered. :p

.. and people who drink heavily live longer than those who don't drink at all! Got my bases covered, too. :)
