Hey Deeds, how about 3 terabytes of RAM?

Kinda nutty, gotta be a market for it I guess....hp doesn't make stuff just to make it, right?

There is definitely a market for it, especially in Hollywood at VFX & editing shops, where you can never get enough horsepower. The latest digital cameras are 8K resolution & sometimes you have to deal with dual footage for 3D shoots...needs an insane amount of horsepower for doing compositing, graphics, etc.

Plus in like 6 months you'll probably be able to buy this at Best Buy for $599 😀

What's max DIMM size? Most I've seen in the wild is 128GB dimms. Even that size won't yield 3TB over 24 slots

I don't think I've seen individual 256GB DIMM's yet.

I just built a virtual server with 500 gigs of RAM. Was a pain because there was a single stick that was faulty lol. Can't imagine how long memtest+ would take on 3TB of RAM...

most definitely 😛 crysis can tap into CUDA

Re: the $35k HP...it's amazing how fast last-gen tech drops in price. I've been buying used 22-core Xeon 2696v4's for as low as $1750 shipped (Amazon/eBay) for various projects lately. A dual-cpu motherboard & two chips for $4k is bananas! Mmm, 44 cores.

Now if Apple was really smart, they'd arrange for HP to include the option of factory installed macOS (and a Mac friendly UEFI firmware), and sell these workstation machines as the "new Mac Pro".
I doubt if 2018's genuine Apple "modular Mac Pro" would be any kind of improvement over these.

It would cost $75k if it was sold by Apple. It would be nice to have macOS on custom hardware though. Maybe one day Apple will realize that it would make sense to license their OS to other manufacturers.

Or just offer to do custom builds for their customers.
