Looky here.

The last time I looked was Friday, and the 512mb module of PC2100 was $165.00 before coupon. Now, it's $159.29 (how they come up with the twenty-nine cents is beyond me...how about $159 or $160, huh Crucial?)

I'm very temped to at least order a 256mb module. ($49 after coupon) but I'm itching to a Gigabyte of memory! Bragging rights, really...but hey...you know? :D

I went to buy some DDR at a local store the other day for a system I was building for a friend. Just generic DDR 2100. It was shown as $80 for 256mb on their website when I put together the price quote. I go in and get 1 dimm and it's now $37!!!!

btw- Excellent quote! :)

The last Crucial RAM I got had Samsung chips on it. Is Samsung cheaper than Micron? Is that why their prices are down? Why did they switch? etc

Are you sure? Crucial Technology is a division of Micron. Their website Crucial.com sells factory direct. I think you are either mistaken or got ripped off by a 3rd party. Did you order from Crucial direct? This is from the Crucial.com FAQ:

Do you manufacture your own memory?

Yes. Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the largest DRAM manufacturers in the world.

Many of our competitors buy components from various manufacturers and merely assemble the finished modules, but we actually manufacture the chips and other components, as well as the finished memory modules. Because we sell factory-direct, we can offer some of the best prices anywhere on top-quality memory.
