1. I'd consider multiple hard drives instead of just one. Using multiple channels could help with speed.
3. If the AMD 64 HSFs are anything like the Socket A ones, they take a bit of elbow grease but I wouldn't say it's hard. If they're screw on ones, it's probably cake.
4. Windows, windows drivers. The BIOS comes installed when you buy the board. :p

1) I would add another hard drive, you'll be better off to keep your operating system and programs seperate from your larger, stored data like documents, video files, etc. I'd stay away from XP Home myself, but can't give you a good reason for it. :p

2) If you're not overclocking, you don't need anything more than the stock Athlon 64 HSF that comes in the retail box.

3) It's very easy. The bracket is preinstalled to the motherboard, all you need to do is insert the processor, place the stock HSF (with pad on it) on top, deal with the two latches and flip a locking mechanism. It's all detailed in a booklet, hard to mess up.

4) You'll need to install Windows, make sure you get SP1a or 2, don't go lower than that. (I recommend 2) On the motherboard CD, install JUST the NIC drivers to access the internet. Restart. Once you restarted go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest nForce4 standalone drivers, install all 4 options. Restart. Then go to www.nvidia.com again and install the latest ForceWare drivers for your video card. Then do non-service pack windows updates.

After that it's just an issue of programs or tweaking should you want it.

If your not overclockinbg get a cheaper mobo. The Epox NF4 Ultra and Chaintech are both great. I do prefer the Epox though just because the Chaintech lacks firewire support and the manual sucks. The Chaintech is not a bad board though and if you want something cheaper then the Epox it is what I would suggest.

Also since you will not be overclocking there is no reason to buy seperate cooling unless you want something quieter.

this is nearly my same build, I got a bfg 6800gt video card, had to RMA it hoping to recieve it soon. I have had many problems with the comp since I got it, I had 2 Hitachi 80gs in Raid 0 and I was using the built in networking to setup up a network with this and a couple other computers. I was having several bsods a day and they all said something different, I checked my ram and cpu and they were fine, 16+ hours for each, memtest and prime. Anyway one problem came up alot was an IRQ problem, seems my vidoe card was always either sharing an IRQ with my ethernet or firewire. I couldn't fix it during the windows install because then I couldn';t use raid. The whole thing pissed me off a lot, but I hope it will be fixed when I get my video card back.

If your mainly video encoding/video editing, why don't you go intel?

That said, if your really concerned with stability, an ASUS MoBo may be a better choice.

Also, you dont need to do a RAID to benefit from two HDD's, especially in situations such as video encoding. When encoding video, you can have the source file on one HDD and the destination on another HDD. This can dramatically increase your encoding speed, as the bottleneck these days is more likely to be the HDD speed rather than the CPU.
