a meg? it's like 225k!
nice background, even though I think digitalblasphemy stuff is kind of overused (at least from what I've seen in the desktop threads).

Sweet...litestep is cool. I made some neat stuff for it, but stopped using it because it takes so mucn more work to keep it up to date. I should send you my little Winamp plugin I made/modified whatever you wanna call it, it's sweet.

does using litestep affect system stability? I'm interested in using it myself but i'm afraid windows will crash...more so.

it depends on the theme...some themes are more stable than others. But overall in my experiances, it was either the same or more stable! just give it a shot, u can always return back to win! just keep a backup of system.ini and replace it through dos if you wanna go back.

awww...crap! how do I get back to my old desktop?

I went to www.litestep.com and d/led the file that claims it's the closest to the official release or whatever. since I didn't like how there's a little litestep window taking up the right side of my screen, I exited litestep and my start bar and my desktop is still gone...how do I temporarily disable litestep?

You need to reboot windows. But before, you need to change the line in system.ini file "Shell=C:\litestep.ext" to "Shell=Explorer.exe"

I used to make themes for Litestep, but gave up on it. It took too much time. I did complete couple of themes though.

Oh yeah.. about the winamp plugins, all you need to do is load up the winamp dll's (it comes with some themes like "Virus 2") and add the shortcuts in step.rc file. :)

Essentially, that's what mine is. I took a few of the seperate plugin dlls, loaded them, and made some shortcuts and organized them all together so it works as if you had a program sitting on the destop. You can download it and see for yourself if you'd like. I think it works quite nicely.

Litestep is just as stable as the windows shell. However if you are going to ihstall at least read the faq so you know how to get your old desktop back. Litestep also requires some configuration and troubleshooting, one thing you have to make sure of is that in all the .rc and .ini files, that they are pointing to where you installed the files on YOUR system are. It is not exactly plug and play.
