At least Captivate had numerous Gingerbread build leaks. My Vibrant, on the other hand, has zero chance of seeing official Gingerbread. Vibrant was abandoned in less than 7 months after release by both T-Mobile and Samsung. Now that's pretty shitty. Custom rom chefs did the best they could with what they had to work with and I'm thankful to them. Vibrant had good hardware except for broken GPS but shitty support given by both T-Mobile and Samsung won't be forgotten by me.

Meh. The upgrade breaks the file browser. I can't view any pictures I had in the file browser. I can still see pics that are in the Gallery. Also, none of my mp3s are viewable in the file browser as well. I usually don't upgrade if everything is working fine. I'm a firm believer of "if it ain't broke..." I'm glad my Cappy is no longer my primary phone.

How much of this delay was Samsung and how much was AT&T?

All of it was At&t, after all the international Galaxy S was the first non Nexus phone to get a Gingerbread update. Samsung even put out a couple of updates to newer builds of Gingerbread, I know it at least got up to 2.3.5.
