I seem to recall a few others having that problem ,I know Darkone had with 1 of his machines ,wasn't the answer to switch to the GUI client? I thought Robor solved it doing that?
Yes, he had to remove SETI from his work computers because of the lag created when using outlook... 🙁
From this bad dark day he was only producing a WU per day on his home computer.
Don't hear from him lately... 🙁
Damn thats a real shame 🙁 ,he used to really kick arse ,& he joined TA on a rare day that I did the daily stats.
It's really sad to see him fall away like that 🙁 ,hopefully they'll ditch otlk2k in the near future
Thanks for the link Crazee 🙂 ,I have forwarded it to Darkone as he also has that prob with a few machines
I JUST decided to check in here as I'm at work late and look what happens, I am summoned. 🙂
It was Outlook 2k that TRIGGERED me stopping SETI. The first problem was a PPro 200 server that no longer liked to run at 100% CPU utilization for more than a few minutes and it would freeze. I was at training and my business suffered for about a day from it. Then people had these problems with Outlook since more and more people decided to use O2K over Outlook Express. The one person's PC refuse to print with SETI running on it. I decided that was it. The whole reason I decided to run SETI on most of my work boxes was because I believed it to be 100% non-intrusive. The printing issue finally broke the camels back and I realized it was NOT 100% non-intrusive. Therefore I made a personal decision as an IS professional to take SETI away from all work machines because I refused to spend any of my time dealing with issues related to SETI. As the sole person in the IS department at my credit union I don't have time to deal with these kinds of things. Also my boss was really turned off to SETI when he had to deal with that one server issue while I was gone and I didn't feel like pushing the issue more than I should. I know it wouldn't have been a David McOwen type of situation, but I could possibly see something going on my record about it and creating tension between my boss and I, especially if more problems arose.
I still run it on my home K62-350 which is that one WU per day you see.
Read that thread, still doesn't say how to disable online folders. If I could defeat the annoying Outlook problem, as well as use SetiDriver to set the priority from 4 to a 1, then I would at least start using it on my PC again. How do I turn off offline folders in Outlook?
I will research this and see if I can find anything out for you. I know mine by default didn't have it enabled because I have never had the performance issue with Outlook. I think I remember Mike Ober saying that with XP and ME you could get the priority down to 1 but not with the other Windows OS's. Maybe we should PM him and see if I am correct.

Ben98........
I understand your decision to remove SETI ,makes sense ,still a damn shame though🙁
We'll remember to let you know ASAP if we find a solution.
Assuming a 100% fix is found would you then(be allowed)install SETI back on your work rigs?
Read the Knowledge base article. Since this is in the Services menu, I think this applies to those of us configured to use an Exchange server. We don't use Exchange and therefore do not have Outlook setup for it and therefore have no Services option under tools. I must still have Offline Folders because I still get that annoying-as-the-dickens pausing every 5 seconds when I'm using Outlook. More ideas?
I am running Windows2000 Pro and after reading the knowledge based article I couldn't find the area discribed. Instead I went into My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/Offline Files. The default must be to ENABLE OFFLINE FILES because they were and I've never been in this area before. I simply unchecked ENABLE OFFLINE FILES and the rest of the tabbed page went grey effectively turning this feature off.
I'm not sure what OS you are running at work on those computers Ben but I thought I'd offer this just in case. 😉
Wow, that was easy! I tried typing a long, useless email in Outlook 2000 where I would normally get pauses and there were none! This is the fix! 🙂 Thanks Smokeball!
I won't be running it on any extra PCs besides my own at the moment, but this P4 1.7GHz looks like it's churning out a good 6 WUs a day so that's a HUGE increase to what I've been doing for the last few months. 🙂 Where are the current stats sites? I want to see what this thing did over the weekend.
That's great if you don't use a laptop for traveling like we do. Offline folders are necessary to access customer/business emails when not connected to the Exchange server. If it's a desktop, always connected, then I turn off Offline folders. If it's a laptop, I have to enable them.
I've got several P4 1.7G machines in TeAm Smokeball and they seem to do WUs between 4:10 to 4:55 depending on AR and usage. 😉
I don't use Outlook, prefer Outlook Express, so I've never suffered the lags that I have read a lot of you are experiencing.
I did start using Active Norton AV a couple of months ago. I lost two motherboards that I think were hit by viruses that corrupted the BIOS CHIPs. Ever since then when I open a fairly large spreadsheet, there is quite a long wait for NAV to check all the VBscripts and Macros and whatever before the spreadsheet opens. That really hacks me off when I'm in a hurry. But it sure beats rebuilding systems due to lost motherboards and corrupted FATs. :Q
