I dont want to cheat, i was just asking if I should have started out the level with it, or if you find it later in the level, or if you're meant to do the whole level without one.

No, no flashlight in hell. It's kind of a bummer too - not from a gameplay perspective but from an art perspective. I've gone back into hell and cheated up myself a flashlight and there is some really cool looking stuff there that you just can't see without the light.

The good news is you get unlimited stamina in hell.

you start out with your fists . . .
. . . poke around in the dark . . . you'll find it . . . and more (don't be afraid of the dark)

I never found a flashlight in Hell, or maybe it isn't there on Marine difficulty. I made it through fine though...

yes, i found one . . .

it was in a dark place i backed into - by accident - reasonably soon after the level started

edit:

i am going to have dinner now . . . when i come back, i'll load up doom for the LAST time and see if i saved anywhere near it (i sold the game but it goes out tomorrow - the package isn't sealed yet)

edit: Can't find it . . . and now that i think about it, i am unsure . . . maybe i confused "caverns - primary excavation" with "hell"
