Hey all...new to SETI

Hiyas,

Saw everyone with this SETI stuff so figured I'd give it a run. I think I have it all setup right...think being the operative word. Thing is, there is no "default screen saver" option on Windows XP that I see...unless it is talking about the saver labeled "Windows XP."

Also, am I supposed to be seeing anything special since I installed this SETI driver?

Welcome to the Seti TeAm Shaorinor 😀

Within Windows XP, there is no "Default Screen Saver", but instead use "Blank Screen". This way your CPU isn't trying to draw all the fancy stuff of the other screen savers 🙂

SETI Driver will not show you anything special screen saver wise, but it will allow you to cache some Work Units (WUs) in case your internet connection or Berkeley (who host Seti@home for us) goes down, as Berkeley do reasonably often 😉

Looking at your rig (very nice BTW 🙂), you should get a WU done in about 3:30 to 4hrs (or thereabouts), so caching about 3-5 days (which is one of the longer times Berkeley has been down) will be 30 WUs to cache.

I hope you enjoy your stay on the team, and make yourself known here 🙂

Welcome aboard Shaorinor 😀

It's great to have you crunching with the TeAm 😀

Be sure to post here if you need anything or even if you don't, we love to see TeAmmates participate 😀

Welcome to the team Shaorinor 😀

Nice rig you have🙂 ,re WU times I would say they would be nearer 4-4.5hrs/WU with your SDR SDRAM ,still fast though🙂

Welcome to the TeAm!!! 🙂

Also, with SetiDriver make sure you input a proxy server (assuming you don't actually need one to connect). This will provide you with an extra layer of protection. For a list of proxies look at the topic list, it is one of the stuck topics up there. 🙂

Once again welcome!

Shaorinor: Welcome to the team. Glad to have you with us and especially glad to see another DC member posting in the forum! 😀

Thanks for the warm welcome =).

As for my system specs, I should update that, hehe. I actually upgraded to an Abit KR7A-133 Raid mobo w/ 512 ddr and 2 WD special editions in raid.
*flexes*

I followed the instructions and just proxied through the orange proxy...unless there is another one that everyone favors?

OKs proxy is fine, or any of the other public proxies nailed at the top of the DC forum.

🙂

Welcome to Team AnandTech SETI! 😀

We are now 2,039 members strong. 🙂

I would like to introduce our newest member:

Shao-LiN ---- Rank 1862 New WUs ---- 2 🙂

We hope you drop by often and say hello. 🙂

We like to recommend that all of our new members go to the following link and use the Preferred Method 2 Installation: SETI Help and Installation

Shao-Lin beat me to creating a welcome thread so I'll just add it to this thread. 😀

That is the idea ... it is using all of your idle CPU cycles. 😉 As long as you have the SETI Client Priority set to "Low" you will hardly notice any slow down in your other applications. 🙂

Welcome to the TeAm! 🙂

As you've no doubt already seen, there are plenty of friendly folks here ready to answer any of your questions anytime.

Happy crunching! 🙂
