To me now:

The Inquirer = Hexus
They just got their validity down to TheInquirer's.
Hexus 4 days ago:
R600 won't make it before April...another delay...cooling system problems...excessive wattage :D

Oh yeah... congratulations Hexus [ not that I've ever read hexus, as their reviews...hmm...ain't even close to my "requirements" & validity level ]
Trustworthy websites = x
Trustworthy websites ==> x -hexus :D

if the reviewers are getting samples on 2/14, then an april release doesnt sound inaccurate

That statement is incorrect aswell.
Review samples ( oem ) will be sent to the reviewers in January

A poll done here already proved people like the review launch earlier, with the product launch following, rather than everything the same day, as the former method allows time for decision making on whether waiting for a GPU purchase is worth it or not.

So nice try, but once again, you lose.

Man, this means a march or april launch?

By that time, we can actually expect not only a G80 refresh, but the mid/low range DX10 G8x variant WHICH is the MOST important because the mid/low range does impact the overall market. ATi(AMD)wont have any competition for the mid/low range. With VIsta released around that time, last generation cards wont be attracting any customers.

How so? Why not have retail cards available instead of "review samples". If NVIDIA can have a succesful hard launch, why not follow suit and actually produce product instead of paper.

So according to you "in the hands of the press" means Tom, Dick & harry down the street can buy them on the 14th of February?

I don't care what YOU consider a hard launch but if I can't buy it on the 14th then it's not a hard launch. If it's launched the same week, fine as that is acceptable. If it doesn't show for a month it's definitely a soft launch (ala X2 65nm).

If this is a HARD launch then congratz are due to DAAMiT considering the huge changes they have had & are still having but if it's not then they're sticking to form. I just hope that I can complete my upgrade in March with a R600, if not then i'll go with nV all across the board.

So... if they're going to have the hardware finalized in February but maybe not enough produced for the full launch until March/April, you'd rather not see information on it earlier if possible? Or you'd like them to "launch" the card in February but without adequate supply, so that they go OOS everywhere for weeks/months?

Of course, if they put out "review samples" and promise a launch soon after that doesn't materialize, that's a problem. Both ATI and NVIDIA have pulled that one before.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the poll was split down the center between those that preferred a same day availability launch and those who didn't mind.

As for myself, I've always stated that a GPU should be widespread available within atleast two weeks of its "release date" (though I realize that term has become rather vague).

But in any event, Hexus is claiming an R600 launch during CeBit, which is in mid-March. So anyone expecting a mid-Feb. launch shouldn't quite get their hopes up yet, it seems.

(Oh, and lastly, can we [please] stop with the hateful comments, Tegeril)

Launch it and have product on the shelf that day, just like the G80. That's what I want to see. Reviews of a retail product that is actually for sale. Anything else is just paper and useless to the consumer. They can't get their product out on time so they do a "preview" to try and stall sales of the competing card......that's just lame.

From what you said it seems like you only care since it may affect sales of NVidia cards?? But that would happen even with a hard launch(all else being equal)...so what exactly is your beef??

I myself don't mind a preview of performance and IQ before retail availability. This also gives some time for driver bugs found by reviewers to be worked out. Hard launches are definitely good but people shouldn't get all worked up about it if retail availability isn't on the same day.

I'm a fan of the review sample launch method. I much prefer to have the NDA lifted on reviews a week before a widespread hard-launch, so that I can have a week of decision-making and review reading before making my purchase. Intel almost did this for the Conroe launch: they lifted the NDA a week or two before the hard-launch, but, problem is, they didn't have widespread availability for their hard-launch. Of course, another thing I learned from that is to never buy from TigerDirect, but that's a different story.

You can do that with a hard launch to, nothing says you have to buy it that day.

The reviewers will get the card before the launch ( as always )
[ the card will be hard-launched & available in stores this February ]
