I got Civilization III a couple weeks ago, and have recently been trying some hex editing on it. So far, I've only been able to change high scores, and alter the help messages. The main game data seems to be stored in two "cab" files called Data1 and Data2. Unfortunatly, they arn't regular cab files. No extractor will open them, and when i look at them in hex workshop, all they have written is: ISc(.`
As opposed to the normal MSCF for cab files. I tried putting in a normal cab files tag, but extractors still cant open it, the error message just changes. Any ideas?

hex editing save files on modern games are a pain compared to before. Don't have a clue on how to edit Civ3 save files but you could always try looking for trainers. I'm sure theres one out there for civ3 by now.

*shrug* someones got to come up with cheats. Besides, I'm not the one who has made 2842 posts on a PC hardware forum...

Ameesh: Thanks man, if I make any headway I'll let you know too.

speaking of editing Civilization data files ... the original one had all ( most ? ) of its messages stored in the text files. My friend and I freaked my sister out ( she was an avid civ player ) by editing the files and replacing the usual in-game text with several messages about her personal life we got from her journal :D
