I got to be a Tech Snoop today. Seems there's an employee who's been accused of Sexual Harrassment, He supposedly displayed some offensive material (porn) to a girl.

So HR asked me to discretely investigate his computer for evidence. Tsk, tsk, tsk. If you're going to surf porn, you should know about the 'Temporary Internet Files' Folder.

Looks like someone's out of a job.

humm.. should I tell the CEO that his HR guy surfs for porn every day during lunch. Everyday I see him go .. since I monitor the proxy from time to time and almost everday around noon he is on his porn lunch.

By the way some of the sites he goes to is unknown to me, however I never look at links to see where it goes. I hope there is no kiddy stuff in there.

< So you are proud that he's fired thanks to you ? >

Seems to me the guy did it to himself. It's not Namuna's fault.

In that particular case, I don't see the difference between surfing for porn or spending time on OT, you are not working when you should be, that's all.

Its not Namuna's fault. He did as requested. The idiot surfing for porn at work and showing it to people broke the Sexual Harrassment policy of the company. These polcies are put into place to make working in the office a comforable experience. I have already had 2 occasions in 5 months where I snooped on systems on my network and found porn. Both where at the request of HR because they recieved complaints from employees in the office. 1 guy actually asked someone out of his department to burn the contents of a director called PORN to cd for him.

dumb dumb dumb.

3615buck, he should be proud. That guy displaying porn to his coworkers can cause the company to get sued and lose some $$$. Maybe enough to where someone who doesn't surf porn will lose thier job cause the company had to pay a large settlement.

Difference between OT and porn is that OT is just "web surfing", whereas porn has the very negative conotation to it - and you can't get sued for showing somebody anandtech - porn is a different matter.

Who doesn't like porn? But really now, no matter how much you may like it looking at it at work is just plain old dumb.

You are right rudder, I forgot that in the US, everybody sues anybody for anything... I mean come on guys ! Suing someone because he showed a porn picture ! Be serious !!! She should simply have answered "Keep on dreaming wanker" !
America is a paradise for lawyers, you could sue someone everyday if you really wanted.

Maybe these are urban legends, but we heard of a few crazy cases here...
- An American who sued Honda because he used his lawn mower as a fan because it was too hot but the lawn mower fell on his head and Honda had not warned against the danger of using a lawn mower as a fan !
- A granny who dried her dog in a microwave oven and sued the company because her dog died.
- A Monica Lewinski who sued the president (a long time ago, when the US had a president) because she sucked his d..k and he swore he never had sex with her but she felt sexually harrassed...
- ...

Can you put up the picture that he showed the coworker?
Whooaa. Not even a warning?
This is PC gone too far. Can't a man take a little break from work and look at some nice porn? He can't help it, he is a guy. Unless he is spending hours doing it, no harm done.
And I don't see why you call porn "offensive material." Was it some really sick stuff? :)

Thanks Supertool, I just gave you a ten for not being so radical as the others.

I mean, c'mon people, looking at porn, surfing the web, downloading warez, reading a magazine, calling your mom, chatting, that's all the same, you are not supposed to do it at work.
What's wrong with having porn on his hard drive ? No viruses spread through JPG files and if he looks a few minutes a day at these pics wbile others are smoking, what's the difference, as long as his work is done properly ? A hard on never prevented anybody from doing his job fine !

Now if the pics were really sick (children porn and so on), Ok, he must be fired, but was it really that sick ???

Just look at president Clinton. I think a president needs all the stress relief he can get. :)

Hafta agree with the dude with the strange name, watching porn while at work is stupid, but I wouldnt say its a reason to fire someone.

And showing it someone is not sexual harassment unless you make some not to clever comments at the same time IMO.
Certainly tasteless though.

Did he even show it on purpose or did she just happen to watch his monitor while he was watching it, if the latter was the case, then thats truely pathetic.

Whether it is a reason to fire somebody or not whoever does it now must realize that they will be fired, because its happenned so many times before. It may be a rash decision, but come on people have to know its gonna happen because it always does - no questions asked.
