Heroes of the Storm

I'd play it if I could, to at least give it a shot, but I feel like they took out everything that makes a MOBA fun. No skill selection, no items, no gold farming, no individual xp. Whats the point?

I agree with your opinion it does feel more like a casual MOBA. I think their plan for in-game customization (like items) is the talent system where you can pick an ability or a augment one of your existing abilities every other level or something. It looks neat but I definitely don't think it replaces items on the same level.

That being said after watching an hour or two of live streams I'm definitely not that excited to play this one. I'm getting deep into dota 2 right now and this just crumbles in comparison imo.
 
Well I've never been a MOBA player so this was really easy for me to pick up compared to when I gave DOTA2 a shot.

I was surprised about the team levels when I first played as well. The matchmaking took a while last night so I minimized and forgot about it for about 10 minutes. I came in and I wasn't handicapped since I leveled with my team. Ended up coming back and winning as well.
 
I thought they were crazy when they announced it. LoL is the biggest game in the world and is firmly entrenched. I'm sure this game will gain an audience but between LoL and DOTA 2, there is only a sliver of the pie left.
 
Everquest was the dominant MMO before WoW came out. Wow did all right ;p

I don't think the same thing will happen here. I do think Blizzard will get a slice of the pie, but I think it will be in third place probably. After watching streams there doesn't seem to be that much depth to the game, but things are only Alpha ofc. I'm giving LOL a try now since I can't play HOTS anytime soon.

EQ was pretty tiny though. There was a lot of room for that market to grow.

As for MOBAs? I don't know how much that market can really grow. I feel like it is rapidly approaching being tapped out. Although with the Blizzard name behind it, maybe they can squeeze their way in.

Anything Blizzard does gets a lot of attention...that's half the battle right there. If the game does end up being good when open Beta starts (might as well be a full release as everyone can play then), I think it can do OK. It won't cost that much to develop it, because you don't need a massive team on it like WOW. People always want something new, as they get bored of the same old same old.

You will probably get new players to the MOBA scene, from people like me who never played MOBA or were interested in them until they heard about HOTS, because of being a fan of Blizzard.
 
Me and the woman got in. Love it so far and its easy to pickup compared to other Dota games. Brings back memories of the old college days in business school playing the original Dota all-stars ^.^.
 
Just got an invite a few days ago. Played quite a few games last night. I would say it's coming along well - and certain parts definitely have that trademark Blizzard polish, others definitely need some.

I like it, I want to play more but I'm not sure it will hold my interest for an extended period. I really only played LoL because my friends did and I'm not sure any of them got an invite 🙁 no bonus party XP for me.

I do like some of what they've done (team XP, no items) to try to at least mitigate the whole snowball effect of getting behind early. You can still lose hard if you do, but it's less damning. Good direction to take imo.

Lots to like, but I also hope some of the "man that's annoying" bits are a result of alpha. Or maybe I need to check some settings to change them lol.
 
I've been playing it for a while now... about 3-4 weeks. It's pretty good and I'm enjoying it. I like that it's quick games and you don't have to commit an hour or more to it... you can play for 20-25 mins if you want. The big team fights happen often, which is how it should be in my view.
 
honestly been getting super into this game lately. got into the alpha quite some time ago but only just started playing a week or so ago. honestly, it's quite enjoyable. a lot better than i initially thought this game was gonna be. very different from the DOTA/LoL i'm used to.

a lot of fun heroes too. the "specialist" category is full of fun and interesting stuff. though mostly i just play tassadar lol

if enough people on AT are in the alpha, we should get some games goin 😛
 
I'm kind of on the fence. I don't think it's bad but I feel like I'm having a hard time finding characters I enjoy. I liked Tyrande at least but tried out some different ones from the new weekly heroes to complete my daily and can't say I was very fond of them. Zagara (I think that's the name) I didn't find fun at all, Rehgar has a nice heal but felt kind of clunky/ineffective otherwise, and the dwarf with dual axes I tried last week also didn't really do much for me. I then tried Malfurion which I kind of enjoyed at least.

Part of the problem is I like a support role but that's only so effective for a group of randoms lol.

My biggest problem is I really need to work on my keybindings. I appreciate the variety of ways the talents let you enhance your character but I think the default ones are a pretty unnatural selection of keys. I've cleaned them up a little bit but was annoyed to find I couldnt keybind M4 or M5 (thumb buttons) yet and I really dislike the autoattack keybind. I understand why they did it, but I can't stand it. And I really want to bind my mount to one of my thumb buttons but can't lol.
 
I played maybe 50 games a few months back. It's ok, but Blizzard has made it clear they are going with a LoL model. So back to Dota2.
