Hero

It's definitely a great movie, but I'm surprised that it has gotten 25/25 so far. I'd guess that it'd be more in the 80ish% range at RT after its release this week in North America.

EDIT: Link fixed.

I liked Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but it's a very different movie, and I do prefer Hero.

The reason I say it may not rate as high for the larger North American audience is because it's very much like an art-house movie, with wire-fu thrown in. That's going to wear on some viewers.

Jet Li's acting is wooden, but fortunately, for his role he doesn't really need to act. Chen Daoming is an excellent actor and more than makes up for it. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung are very good too.

Great movie, but there definitely will be people out there that hate it. I've had the real (import) DVD for quite some time now, and it's just a great demo disc for colors and scenery. I haven't kept up with overseas movie releases recently, but Jet Li said that the second one is releasing now in his IGN interview...is that right?

The chick fight in the forest was the best scene in the movie.

And yes, you can pick this up on DVD now because it was released three years ago.

Sadly, this will not be a hit in the U.S.; the success of CTHD was a fluke and will most likely never be repeated again. :(

That being said, however, I'm going to try my hardest to convince my "what, ANOTHER foreign movie?" wife to see this. I had to pull teeth to get her to watch Spirited Away, and she ended up loving it! :)

Wait, so did Tarantino just bring the movie over to the states? He actually has nothing to do with it otherwise?

Yeah, he saw the film a year or so ago and loved it, and with his name recognition in the states, they decided to use his production company, Rolling Thunder, to bring it over. Other than that, he's just another fan...with deep pockets and tons of influence :p

I did not like the ending to this movie. And was disappointed in the fight scenes. Maybe I should write a review and lower the score...nah too much work

Yes -- he did the same with Iron Monkey.

personally I didn't like the movie. Director Zhang Yimou had done much better than this, go see "to live".

No he wasn't the producer. Like others have said, he had absolutely nothing to do with the making of the movie. He pushed Miramax to get it over to North America though, and rumour has it that Miramax wanted his name on it, for recognizability. (Not many people have heard of Zhang Yimou.)

Fortunately, Hero is a MUCH better movie than Iron Monkey.

i saw the preview for Hero when I saw kill bill volume 2, and when i saw the title "HERO" at the end of the preview, i was like "OMG my friend has that movie it looks so good i wanna see it!!"

so i watched it the next day. and BBOOYY was i disappointed. the preview makes the movie look ALOT different than the actual movie. i honestly thought the movie was HORRIBLE and i will DEFINITELY not see it in the theatre.
