Herman Miller Aeron Chair

I've been having lots of lower back pain lately and have been thinking of getting one of those Herman Miller Aeron chairs I keep hearing about to help solve the problem. Highly adjustable w/ PostureFit . I'm turning 30 next month and don't feel like having back surgery by the time I'm 40. I usually spend 3-6 hours a day in my computer chair. I went to a place that had them and it did seem like the most comfortable computer chair I've ever sat in.

The only problem is the rediculous price... with the fully loaded (but not the extra for chromed out frame) they cost around $900 new. That's what my wife and I paid for our couch! It won't send me to the poor house... but it might mess up my next computer upgrade purchase. 😛

So... what do y'all think? Any owners have good/bad comments about their Aeron? Do you own another chair that treats your back well? Thanks!

Hell yeah it's worth it. And to everyone who complains the Aeron sucks, 99% chance you're not sitting in the right sized version.

Yep, once it's properly adjusted to you and if it's the right size model. When I first bought my Reaction chair from Herman Miller it was really uncomfortable, but after messing with the seating positions and other setting for an hour or so, it's the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in.

No, it's not worth it. They're OK, good even, but not worth the money IMO, and not the greatest chairs out there.

<------------ has used a bare-bones and fully-loaded Aeron, for several months each, properly sized and fitted

A lot of mixed reviews about this chair. I have one at work and they are the most comfortable chair to SIT on. Now if you guys decide to SLEEP on it, that's not what it's made for. So of course, it's not going to be comfortable.

You should get the one with the lumbar support if you are having back problems.

No...we have quite a bunch at work...they are nice, but I'd never spend that much for one.

goto staples/office depot/officemax. sit in EVERYONE of their chairs on display. (they usually have a couple of dozen chairs on display.)

and pick one that feels the best.

the chair i'm been using 6hrs/day cost me $39.95 at staples. great back support. better than any other chair that was $100 or less.

note: i never tried any of the $100+ chairs.

In other words, you don't know what you're talking about. 😛

I recommend not getting anything from the discount office supplies stores because they are low end and minimally adjustable. The aeron may be overrated, but it is ergonomically adjustable to fit many different body types and different positions. I didn't find it all that comfortable but 3-6 hours a day isn't all that much either.

Preferably if you get one you can return it in 15-30 days if you don't like it...it really takes about that long to find out if a chair is going to be good for you if you're going to sit in it all day.

go with the steelcase Leap chair

we replaced our aerons with them.....
they're not as comfy as the aeron when you first sit down...but they're much better for sitting all day

it was cool having steelcase deliver 30 of them

I definitely like padding over a funky nylon screen.
