so this is what i have currently. its been a couple years....

Motherboard:
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1466 MHz (11 x 133) 1700+
Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 1 WiFi, 3 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400
System Memory 2048 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

i want to upgrade the cpu, mobo, case, vid card, and if needed, ram. i want a computer that will run vista well (once they get all the major bugs out, ill upgrade). i dont really play games anymore. i use my xbxo 360 for that. i just want something that will run all web design apps well, and play movies/mp3s flawlessy. what should i get? thanks.

oh, and i prefer amd/ati, so no intel stuff.

fanboyism? wtf? i used to be really into modding and all that and im thinking about upgrading my hardware now after years of being out of "the game". i am not a fanboy. i think vista is one of the most overhyped pieces of crap ever, but windows is my only real option as mac systems cost a crap load. vista WILL be good eventually once things are fixed I HOPE.

anywayz, i was looking at AMD/ATI mobo's cpu's and all the lines are hella confusing, so i'm just gonna get a nice intel setup. i dont game anymore, so i wont be overclocking or overly concerned with the video card capabilities.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF PC3200 DDR SDRAM IS STILL UP TO DATE for a modern intel cpu/asus mobo combo? or should i upgrade that too?

modern cpu's on both sides use ddr2 so no pc3200 is not up to date (and outside of a few intel boards or older amd chips wont even work). He said fanboyism becasue you said no intel and the truth is that unless you want to go realy inexpensive Intel is in the lead for now (and will be till fall at the earliest when k8l comes out), core 2 duo is the best chip Intel has made in a long time and amd has no response as of yet (before my core 2 I had a 754 3200+ and 939 4400+ so I am not an Intel fan boy, they just have the best processros at the moment (unless you are looking at a workstation with more then 2 processors (not cores, processors)).

ohhh. im used to the days where amd was the lead in gaming and speed. nice to know intel's providing some good competition now. guess i'll be buy a core duo cpu and i'm looking at the asus k5p (not sure the name) mobo.

can u recommend some good ram?
