I bought this car (91 MR2 turbo - hardly stock) on April 1, which now seems pretty appropriate. Drove it a few days and it started smoking pretty bad, I figured turbo seals or valve seal or something. It appears it was a valve seal, but while I had the head off checking everything, I found the #2 cylinder scored pretty badly. Looks like something had gotten in through the intake mani and lodged itself between the piston and cylinder wall.

Rather than just letting it run like that - and it would have - for a while, I figure best to just drop the motor and replace it. It's already bored about as far as you can go on these motors, so I got a new short block and finally - today - got to work. I'm waiting on some new exhaust studs and some injector gaskets and then we'll mate up the transmission and get it installed in a couple weeks when I get back from vacation.

My goal is to have the car running by the fourth of July - and then broken in by mid July, then tuned and Dynoed by mid August.

Pic of the car, just because.

My major goal is to just enjoy the dang car before winter comes and she goes into the garage for 5 months.

Yay! another MR2 thread.
Anand should just redirect Garage to MR2OC, haha!
I like those rims.

But how would we get more people into MR2's if we just sent them to MR2oc your a prime example! but MR2oc is a great board been on there for 10 years now.

I love the removal of the center bar on the intake before the rear wheel. Makes it look like it could suck in small animals and children for extra boost.
