The host 'mail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Tominator', Server: 'mail', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

After selling my beloved 3Com server card, I'm back to my Linksys 100TX nic. In Win98 it works fine, but in Win2K I get this error on all my accounts. Cannot send or receive mail.

On @Home btw. Settings in '98 and 2k are identical. Am using a D-Link DI701 router. Drivers for the NIC are the latest...

Thanks for the help in advance....

Well, just guessing, but maybe you have a local /personal DNS (new or otherwise) and since the @home.com email is distributed among several servers, you missed the target in the round-robin. You can try an alternate address of mail.(city abbreviation).(state abbreviation).home.com (it's on your provisioning order) and it'll work for a bit, then tell you you can't get there either...then you switch back to using mail.home.com...and it'll work for a while too...then ya gotta switch back.

If you add the right aliases/zones/etc to your DNS it'll be OK.

Alternatively, put both domain names in your IP configuration, and change your mail server to "mail"...and let Windows try both domain names for you.

Good Luck
