Bush advocates a five-year extension of the Internet tax moratorium, which is due to expire next year. Allowing the moratorium to lapse could bring a blizzard of new taxes as state and local governments try to do what many of them were considering before the moratorium -- collect tolls whenever online transactions bounce through their jurisdictions. The end of the moratorium would bring higher taxes on consumers and huge regulatory burdens for Web companies -- in short, a disaster for the new economy. Where does Gore stand on extending the moratorium? He has studiously avoided answering that question. Score another one for Bush.

Currently, WEB traffic accounts for less than 5% of the GNP. I am sure taxing it would wreck the economy. And I am sure Gore is all for wrecking the economy.

So, it's ok to levy taxes on Brick and Mortar stores but not on internet ones?
That doesn't seem fair.
Thought everyone should be treated equal?
Or is that just when taxes are cut?

Aren't they already taxed? I mean, some states charge tax on online purchases.

B&M's have always paid tax while mail order skated. Nobody seemed to care before. Now that mail order has become easier thanks to the web, everybody is eyeing the cash cow. We've lived without the money to this point, why not leave it be?

E stores collect tax on sales in the state the e store is based. We don't collect some other states tax, primarily, there is no mechanism to track and report it.

Somehow, this revelation of shrubs doesn't match up to the head of governors declaration to tax the internet. Thats Mike Levittt of Utah,The lieing scheming SOB who was elected on the premise he would not raise taxes for the 2002 scandal marred olympics, yet he put a nickle a gallon tax on every gallon of gas purchased in the state to fund a pork barrel highway rebuilding project in Salt Lake City to handle olympics traffic.

So much for Republican integrity.:disgust:

Bush doesn't believe in anything like a human does. He's a puppet that's literally controlled by corporations.

Does anyone at all here at Anandtech even know what Bush's number one priority is if elected?? Bush talked about it for awhile a couple of months ago. Congress dealt with the issue back in the spring. But the Media seems to ignore it, because it's extremely unlikely this radical wish would ever be enacted.....(A Republican controlled congress smashed a similar bill in May with 266 'nay' votes....but many say because they knew Clinton would have vetoed it and it would have been used against them in the fall elections.)

Not some hidden agenda, but his previously stated #1 priority upon entering office. I've have not seen a single thread about this to date. Which is not surprising since most people who argue politics really don't do any research at all or are very young and inexperienced.

I'll start a thread about Bush's #1 priority in a week or two.
