Here's my problem, and I'm having problems trying to fix it..

Okay.. I have an ECS K7S5A motherboard, with a 1.4GHz Athlon processor.

Recently, I had to remove one of my 256MB DDR chips, because my computer would simply give me constant errors. After replacing this chip from Crucial, I found that my motherboard was the culprit, and both sticks of ram in at the same time would cause system hangs and memory errors constantly.

So I've been trying to flash the bios. I'm not sure this will remedy my problems, but I'm trying to. And I can't even do THAT. I formatted a bootup disk in XP, copied the files over for the flash, and it says "Invalid system disk" when I start up with it. When I read the disk in windows, it reads fine, along with all the system files.

Two questions now. First, how can I flash the bios with my problem? Secondly, is it even worth doing, because I'm not sure it will fix my problem!?!? Should I just look at buying another motherboard? I've been more than happy thus far with this one, but now that I'm down to 256 megs of ram instead of 512, many tasks are getting stressed while I'm working on my PC.

So help me out and give me some answers! 🙂

Thanks!

Didn't work for me 🙁

I flashed the bios without a hitch, but unfortunately I can't get the 2nd chip to recognize.

I guess I don't have to worry any more, I have to buy a new motherboard.

buy a new mobo? why not rma it? if anything, i'll give u $20 for it 😀

that is... assuming at least one dimm slot works 😉

Nah, it's going to my brother, who uses non-ddr ram.. I figure this way he can just buy a 1.4 Ghz processor or something cheapie, and have a new computer (essentially).
