Step 1: Go to http://www.tomshardware.com
Step 2: Make every design decision be the opposite.
Step 3: profit.

I hadn't visited that site since their redesign, but jeez it looks terrible now. Everything is so crammed and busy.

THG used to be my favorite website up to 4-5 years ago, since then I seldom visit it, it just keeps getting worse. AT rox.

I bet you couldn't make a site as good as this if your life depended on it :)

Horrible... they used to have decent site, and now they've gone with this ultra-futuristic metallic terminator template... I expect that from Alienware or maybe Dell's XPS systems, but not a decent hardware review site like Tom's. Ugh.

Actually, I can and I do, since I work in web development. :) I'd like to show you some of the stuff I've done, but I can't since its they're internal tools and available only on the intranet.

But just to give you an idea, all the apps have a simple, clean, minimalist interface (check out the trillian skin I use, I love this particular UI) with just the right amount of AJAX.

1. Trillian sucks.
2. What the HELL does Trillian have to do with anything?
3. Um. Make every decision the opposite? I'm sorry but that makes NO SENSE AT ALL. You mean to tell me to make the opposite of a horizontal navigation? or a BETTER / cleaner / nicer version of it?

1-2. I was just illustrating a nice UI that I like. Consider it an inspiration for the stuff I write. Compare it to the default MSN messenger UI and and you'll see why I like it. MS tried to cram everying under the ****** sun in MSN!
3. It wasn't meant to be taken literally for god's sake. It was a poke at how busy, flashy and crammed their site is.
