One winner, two winning tickets on record-breaking Lotto 6/49 jackpot
Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Vancouver, B.C., May 28, 2013 - About a month after he won the “big one,” reality is finally sinking in for Harry Black after collecting his two Lotto 6/49 cheques, each for $15.8 million in jackpot winnings.

The 66-year-old Surrey resident has a unique habit of purchasing not one, but two tickets with the exact same numbers. For the April 13 Lotto 6/49 draw, this habit really paid off as Black twice matched all six numbers to win half of the record-breaking $63 million jackpot.

In total there were four jackpot-winning tickets, each worth $15,853,471.30, for the April 13 draw. Black is the final ticket holder to come forward to collect his share of the jackpot; the other winners were in Vancouver and Calgary, Alberta.

“This is a wonderful surprise to all of us,” said Kevin Gass, Vice President of Lottery Gaming at BCLC. “While it’s not known how many people buy identical tickets for a draw, it is the first time in the company’s recollection that we’ve had this unique sort of win.”

The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased April 12 at the Chevron gas station on Scott Road and 104 Ave. in Surrey. Black, who also enjoys playing Lotto Max and BC/49, says before today’s big news he’d never won more than $10 at a time. Well, not anymore!

The part-time film industry worker says he won’t quit his job, but he does plan to do a bit of traveling, including a visit to Scotland, then plans to buy some land and build his dream house. Black says he’ll also invest his winnings and share a significant portion with his friends and family members.

I can only dream and wish

Haha, interesting idea! 1/2 payout compared to 1/3 payout is a pretty decent bonus for just buying 1 extra ticket.
