D'Souza is considered an "intellectual" on the right. Pretty much tells you all you need to know about the American right wing.
I remember when Bill Krystal used to be considered a conservative intellectual. Can't be though, he's a never Trumper.

I'm honestly having a hard time understanding what you're arguing. In any case, this thread does a pretty good job drawing a line back to Ford's pardon of Nixon.

You're not paying attention. Ford's pardon of Nixon cost him the 1976 election. Read up-

In 2001, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award to Ford for his pardon of Nixon.[21] In presenting the award to Ford, Senator Ted Kennedy said that he had initially been opposed to the pardon of Nixon, but later stated that history had proven Ford to have made the correct decision.[22]

I detested Nixon. He was widely hated over his conduct of the War. We wanted the war over & the Watergate drama was part of what needed to be over. When Ford pardoned Nixon we had destroyed Tricky Dick & that was good enough for most. We didn't have to fight over it. It was over. I lived it. I remember.

Since then, Presidents have avoided political pardons that might hurt them. They saved them for the end of their terms when they couldn't be hurt. GWB caught enormous flack for commuting Scooter's sentence. Everybody knew he'd never see a day in jail because he'd roll over at that point.

Trump isn't doing that at all. He's less than 2 years into his term. He's pitching the deplorables with the idea that Joe, Scooter & Dinesh are good guys telling the truth. Trump pushes his fellow con artists & conspiracy theorists back to the top of the news cycle & validates them to his base.

He's tearing the Country apart.

Dinesh D'Souza was targeted by obama because he spoke out against him. Dinesh deserves the pardon although the left isnt going to like it though.

He's trying to frame all this "breaking the law" stuff as no big deal to his supporters. Gee, I wonder why.

D'Souza is a right wing conspiracy theory grifter. That's not actually illegal but it's why Trump pardoned him. His campaign contribution shenanigans were illegal, however.

Interesting, Maddow just commented on how Trump pardoning D'Souza and discussing pardons for Martha Stewart, Rod B et al could be blatant signaling to his associates caught up in the Russia stuff.

Offenses Trump will let you get away with:

- Obstruction of justice, perjury, making false statements to investigators (Scooter Libby, Martha Stewart),
- Criminal contempt of court (Arpaio)
- Corruption, fraud, and extortion (Rod Blagojevich).
- Campaign finance violations (D’Souza)

At the GOP convention, Trump claimed that he alone could restore law & order. Helluva start.
