Hi y'all,

I'm in the process of setting up my first server/client network. All of my previous have been simple IP or IPX game networks. Now I find myself with an extra P133 and P233, allong with my PII 400 and PII 500. I would love to setup on my DSL and also have them access my printer and files. I figured it's time to set up a server, so my 500 has 256mb and 40GB and here I am, at the beginning. I'm reading Networking for Dummies(me) and searching the web, but I know some of you are what I would call guru's and could set something like this up in your sleep(and probably do). Could any of you please send me some links or advice. Thank you.

As Always,
D

Well, before getting into anything real interesting... What kind of equipment do you have for connecting to the DSL Line? Internal, external, brand, model numbers whatever. There are easy ways around lotsa stuff.

Sounds like you will probably want to put 2 network cards in one machine, plug it into a hub and run a win-gate, winproxy , winNAT type setup, but it might be easier than that depending on the hardware you have.

Thank you Fubar,

That's the stright forward answers I love to see on Anand. I have:
P200 96mb with 10mb generic NIC
P133 128mb " " " "
PII 400 128mb with Dlink 10/100
PIII 500 256mb" " "
One 6 port hub
One External Westel(crap) DSL
One extra 3com 10/100
One cisco 605 internal DSL
TONS of cable CAT5(the guys who wired my building were real nice)
And enough End caps

I have another post about running my old 486 w/10mb NIC(linux compatible) as a Linux Firewall.

Hope that helps,
D
