Herecules 3D Prophet III GeForce 3 (NV20) card/box shots, CompUSA sku# 282126...$599

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!
$1k for a Video card (I'm canadian)

hahahah yeah that's going to happen.

I think I'll take that Radeon 64MB Vivo Tradeup offer now thank you very much ($225 cdn/$150 us, after MIR, before shipping)

Sweet!!!!!!!............I can't wait for one of these......hope they hurry so I can put my new system together!

fkloster remembers all those 3DFX guys willin' to shell out $600 for those V5 6K's months ago. This card (NV 20) will most definately SPANK whatever the V5 6K might have been or become...

flokster, Pyro hates people who refer to themselves in third person 😉

Seriously, $900 canadian plus 15% tax for a total of $1035 is simply insane. What the hell is wrong with nVidia? only fanatics and richkids will buy this.

Like Noriaki I'll be gettin my retail radeon though trade up and them maybe modestly overclock it to 200/200.
I bet nVidias image quality still isn't as good as ATi and there are missing in the multimedia dept.

Btw. is that TwinView I saw (look at the card pic)?

If I remember correctly, when the GeForce2 GTS 32mb DDR cards first came out, they were around $400 or so; now they are half that. Give it about 6-9months, the card will be down to $350. I'm still blown away by my Annihilator 2. I'll keep it for quite awhile. Heck, I even think my Voodoo 3000 PCI looks great! Don't need no stinkin' 64mb DDR.....unless I hit Lotto, then I'll buy 3 of them.

does nvidia think they can make money off of this thing? i'm guessing there is no quick ROI for this product. R&D costs plus production costs = a whole lot, but quantity demanded at that price isn't going to cover all that r&d. this card is giong to be what makes people realize how frickin' nuts the pace of graphics development is, and that nvidia might just be going about it the wrong way.

i miss 3dfx.

"I wonder if the $599 price tag means they have worked out their 2D display problems..."

Hehe, I wouldn't try resoldering one of these! Perhaps NVIDIA will offer desoldering their RFI filter themselves for...say...an extra $75 fee? 😉 My $100 modified Creative MX (soon to "become" Quadro MXR) will cut the butter for me!

Umm...ya im not spendin that much $$ on a vid card for now...if i wanted 2 spend little less id prolly go for the geforce 2 ultra...but then again u can prolly get it cheaper than 599 somewhere...that was compusa

Good one Napalm!! LOL! I was thinkin the exact same thing. Lets hope they buy out ATI so the GeForce4 will be $2,000. FVCK NVIDIA!!

for that price you should get a lifetime prescription for glasses/contacts since the 2d is gonna make you squint and go blind

Damm and i thought 400 for a gig of ram was alot. Noriaki was right. At a grand plus cdn it really is too expensive. 🙁

That would have been the price of the V5 6000 when it should have come out almost a year ago. Today, it probably would have been $250. By then a V5 8000 should have come out with 8 VSA-100 chips, which should have made an interesting comparison....

NV20 yields are probably extremely low. They can charge a ridiculous price because they don't have enough product to to go around. The number of hardcore buyers will be enough to meet current yields. When they ramp up it will become cheaper. Hell, I paid $375 for my Geforce 2 when it first came out! Now I know to wait a few months. Why not wait, there won't be ONE game to take advantage of that card for probably a year anyways!
