I picked up an 84 Mercedes 300D for $1000 on ebay. My plan has been to fabricate a conversion kit to allow this diesel car to run on used vegetable oil (from a chinese resturant). If anyone is interested, I will periodically post my progress.
 
if you are familiar with the show TRUCKS! on the Spike network...they just did an episode today on something similar to this. Except they had a kit they purchased that allows you to make your own biodiesel. All I know is they made it look WAY easier than anything I've seen on message boards.

I'm totally pumped about this project, as it will hopefully allow me to commute to school (50 miles away) for little $$ after collecting and filtering the oil. we'll see, I guess
