I was planning on spending about $600 dollars on a basic gaming rig for Christmas. It would be something like e8400 with 9800gtx and other components which don't matter for now. But I was still seeing 30% cashback from ebay. If that still works by the time I have to order(soon), I could be able to get a 900 dollar computer. 900 * .70 = $630. Is this a good way to look at at?

There are limtiations to the deal so make sure you read the details carefully. Just be careful getting parts off of ebay. You really don't want someones processor that has had 1.7V pushed through it under phase.

You've got to slog around ebay on your own and hunt up your deals. I guess you'll be earning your 30% cash back...
We don't link to ebay, only quality vendors. :p

What is next good processor above E8400? What about a Nvidia card for about $250? I plan to play new games.

e8500 or even a Q9400
GTX 260 or 4870 1GB
WD6400AAKS
4GB DDR2-800 1.8V
P43/P45 motherboard (or G43/G45 if you want microATX)

You can often find new parts on eBay sold by the online vendors (mwave and tigerdirect do this, not sure which others) and you can sometimes find parts 25-30% off (MS cashback) that also qualify for MIR because of the vendor. Quite nice deals if you look around. Trick is, know what the parts are worth and then hunt down real deals.

Yea eBay is hit and miss sometimes. Be careful and just make sure you bid on vendors that have some good feedback.

I've bought an E5200, Q6600, 2 WD10EACS, and a 650W Antec True Power Trio off Ebay in the last couple months. Everything has been exactly as described and in perfect shape. If you buy from reputable sellers it's fine. Not to mention lots of big online stores have Ebay stores. Buy.com and Mwave for example.
