I just returned from working on a machine that would not recognize any kind of mouse plugged in. Tried USB--Serial--PS2. The no mouse attached screen always appeared. FIX---The CD Rom door would not always open so I unplugged the data cable to the CD ROM and what do you know, the mouse now OK.
Never thought a bad CD Rom would cause a problem like this.
