Well, I've been around for quite a while now, and if there's one thing I learned for sure, is that its NEVER a good time to upgrade. You should always wait, 'cause something new is coming out next week/next month/next year/next whatever, if I'd follow these advices all the time, I'd still be with P-II & riva TNT.
I'm not saying you shouldn't check the market before investing some (alot) money in new hardware, on the contrary, you should make a through search, but you must remind yourself before you start searching, that at a certain point you gotta draw the line, and get the stuff you want.

tuteja is speaking the truth. I usually stay two generations behind because that is where the new games are at. Unfortuately right now, I am three generations back. Need to find a good price on a X1900XT or 7950GT.

I consider myself three generations back because 8800 series --> 7800 series --> 6800 series (what I got). Luckily, I got a free Core Duo 2 6300 and Gigabyte S3 motherboard. So I am hoping to get 2GB of Micron D9s in my stocking for Christmas and then I will pull the trigger on a PCI-E X1900XT or maybe even a midrange 8800.
