does anyone have any idea about combi water heaters?

last night my water heater went funny (see below) and now it is getting really cold, 11 degrees C last time i looked (case temp is 17, sidew00t).

heater problem:

the heater has 3 light on the front, one red, one yellow and one green, next to each one is a small picture of a container empty, half full and full respectively

normally the yellow/green light is on but now it's all red, this means no heating or hot water.

i think the problem is low pressure in the thing, but i'm not sure how to get it back up.

can anyone think of anything i can try to get it working? (there is a red dial that looks turnable but i am chicken).

thanks for any help and i look forward to being able to feel my fingers :(

gas.

when i run the hot water, it sounds like it's trying but the gas doesn't ignite with it's lovely warm comforting "whoosh" as it normally does :(

yeah, well, the only other gas thing we have is the hobs, but they work ok.

i have a feeling that the red knob will increase the pressure, but not sure enough to risk the knob comin off in my hand and flooding the kitchen

does it have a pilot, or does it ignite when needed?

My guess is that the red dial is to adjust the water temperature.

I trust you don't have the heater's manual available? It might be useful to see what pre-ignition self-check steps it goes through.

arcas, the red dial i'm talking about is accessed under the heater where all the pipes and stuff is, and it is connected to a tap.

Viper GTS, it's not a case of allowed, she's sleeping on a very small sofa next to me, not enough room for 2

So tell her (ever so politely, of course) to stop hogging the covers; you're freezing your tail off. Find some place where both of you can curl up under the covers and wait until morning. 'course, if the heater isn't working by then, getting up in the morning is gonna be a b!tch. Good thing it's saturday :D Good luck getting the heater fixed!

If you have no heat in the house, you might want to leave your water faucets on a steady drip overnight if the outside temperatures are going to drop very far below freezing. Having a busted heater is bad. Having a busted heater and busted water pipes is worse.
